Amy Javernick-Will received funding from CU's Innovative Seed Grant program to investigate how community participation affects structural performance of post-disaster shelter in Ecuador. Abbie Liel is the co-PI, Casie Venable is the GRA, and Danielle Rivera from ENVD is also involved.

Seeking Self- Nominations for the 2017-18 Student Leadership Team Representative!
The Mortenson Center's leadership team includes a student representative whose role is to act as a conduit of information for program students to/from the leadership group. This individual attends weekly staff meetings, quarterly meetings of the Center's External Advisory Board, and and will be active in programming development and implementation. Students who are interested in holding this role for the 2017 - 2018 academic year should write a brief statement of interest that will be shared on the ballot. OpenRefine Data-Wrangling Workshop

Do you have messy data? OpenRefine, a free and open-source application used for cleaning and transforming data, can help. Phil White will introduce participants to the OpenRefine interface and walk through cleaning up some common messy-data problems. Bring your own laptop with OpenRefine pre-installed. Walk-ins are welcome but advance registration is recommended.

The evening will include a social hour, dinner and a formal program featuring a keynote address by Amy Smith.

UN Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation for a Changing World
The second annual multi-stakeholder Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation (STI)
for the Sustainable Development Goals will be held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, on May 15 and 16, 2017. This year's discussions wil
l focus on SDGs 1, 2, 3, 5, 9, and 14.
The Mortenson Center will apply to host a side event (discussion) on An Integrated Approach to the SDGs and is seeking EDC students who would like to help develop and run this event. Please contact Robyn by email (

Paid Water and Development Internship
Water 2017 is a one-year initiative of Advocates for Development Assistance aiming to elevate and mainstream global water security across US foreign policy. Water 2017 is hiring a full-time, paid intern (preferably senior undergrad or grad student) to assist with projects that support their advocacy, communications, and research efforts. The intern will support the CEO and Deputy Director.
Start date: late April or early May, End date: June 30, 2017. Based in DC.
