News From the Field:
Growing Partnerships Across the Philippines

In 2018 we will be offering our signature technical training program, Seed School, to new regions and partners throughout the Philippines.

Last month while our Executive Director Sherry Manning was in the Philippines she conducted a field visit and met with new partner farm Layog Country Farm located in Tadian, Mt. Province. This 28-hectare family farm has been in the Layog Family for generations. After learning of our work on the Internet, they reached out discuss a collaboration to host a Seed School for farmers throughout Mt. Province. In addition to being a beautiful space,  the farm is a registered Agriculture Training Institute- ATI site- and well equipped to host Seed School. We look forward to partnering with Layog Country Farm and the Provincial Agriculture Office of Mt. Province to bring Seed School to their farmers in 2018.

We are also looking forward to hosting our first Seed School in the Southern Philippines with a vibrant community of organic farmers and community leaders in Cebu in February. Program Manager Karen met with the team at the Cebu Farmers Market and with Cebu government officials last month to finalize this new partnership. They are primed and ready to launch a seed library and we look forward to collaborating to bring our knowledge and expertise to Cebu in February.

Welcome New Board Member: Alisha Williams

Alisha is a fundraising professional who first learned about Global Seed Savers  after attending a Seed School in a Day training facilitated by our Executive Director Sherry. As part owner of  Seeds Trust , a local seed company selling high-altitude, open pollinated seeds, the mission and work of Global Seed Savers is an obvious  fit.

Alisha is a proud Coloradan who grew up in Steamboat Springs and studied English at Colorado State University. After graduation, she fulfilled a dream of serving with the US Peace Corps, spending three years in Togo, West Africa as an Environmental Action and Food Security Volunteer. It is there that Alisha found her love for empowering communities to find innovative solutions for making our world a better place to live. Since returning home in 2013 she has worked in both the non-profit and local government sectors in the Denver metro area. Alisha recently completed her Permaculture Design Certification and loves cooking vegetarian feasts, hiking peaks with her pup, practicing yoga, and traveling the world with her husband. She looks forward to growing along with Global Seeds Savers as a new member of the Board of Directors and serving as the Board Treasurer for the coming year.

Year End Campaign Continues till December 31st

Thanks to your generosity we are very close to hitting our total revenue goal of $75,000 for the year. This is nearly a 30% increase in revenue from last year that has allowed our programs to grow and to impact more farmers throughout the Philippines.  Thank you for making this possible!

With $1,500 still left to raise, there is still time to make a donation that will help us reach our goal. Once we reach our goal we'll be able to open a new Seed Library in 2018.
