A Message from our Pastor

Hospitality was one of the important offerings in the early church. The first century lacked hotels so having a safe place to stay was important, especially for those early Christians who traveled about the Mediterranean world sharing the gospel and founding churches. Hospitality made their work possible.

As someone who has experienced coming into new situations (what my husband call a church tramp), I have come to appreciate just how much it means to be offered the gift of hospitality, so many thanks to all of you who have welcomed me. The lovely reception last week, the way you help me learn names, the information you share about how things work around here - all of these things make me feel very much at home.

I know you have been through a hard time, but I also know your warmth and your commitment to this place. Even more, I am learning the depth of your commitment to our Lord and look forward to sharing that journey with you.

.. be hospitable, a lover of good, self-controlled, upright, holy, and disciplined, writes Paul to Titus (1:8). Good advice to all of us!

Message from the Finance Committee

The Christ Our King property, facilities, and equipment have been carefully maintained and upgraded over the years, both indirectly through generous financial donations and directly by the hands of dedicated members.  However, over time despite proper maintenance--systems break, storms cause damage, facilities age, or new technology is necessary to address new problems.

You may have heard that we recently made additions to our security system following an incident in the education building during preschool hours.  Several weeks ago, someone entered the church and lurked around for some time before stealing a wallet from a preschool staff member's purse.   Pictures of the perpetrator were captured by the surveillance cameras in the halls and given to authorities. This incident was a "wake up call," which prompted an obvious need to tighten our security.  We decided to install a locking system on the church office door with a video access identification monitor. COK and the Co-Op Preschool agreed to split the cost of the installation.

In recent months, our 20-year-old phone system has been malfunctioning and beyond repair, and it was necessary to install a new phone system. By now, you may be wondering how these two costly upgrades were funded. Thanks to a donation from a family in our congregation, the cost of these items was covered without tapping into our operating budget. Although this family requested anonymity, we thank them for their generosity.

You may have also noticed that due to the ice storm this past winter, we lost many branches on our pine trees along the perimeter of the property. The removal of the limbs was too big of a job for our facilities ministry. Recently the Wegeler Family arranged to have these branches professionally removed and the trees restored with no cost to the church. We would especially like to thank Randall and Sharyn for their generous efforts in restoring the beauty and safety of our grounds.

New Member Seminar

Are you thinking about becoming a member of this family of Jesus Christ? There will be a new members seminar on Sunday, May 21 after Church. We will start with a light lunch and spend a coupld of hours sharing with each other and learning a bit about the Presbyterian Church.

Call the Church Office to let us know you are coming and if you will need child care.

Thank Yous

In the past few weeks of my recovery, I have been able to enjoy seeing some of my old friends at COK and I would like to say a big "Thank You" for your prayers, cards, and support during my "new knees" surgery. They are doing great and I will be back at work soon.

Continue to know that even if I don't see you, you and COK are in my thoughts and prayers, always.

Dear Christ Our King Christian friends,

I can't thank all of you enough for your prayer concern, cards, gifts of food, flowers and visits! It has meant so much to me and Dennis. The prayers have been answered, I feel.

Please continue to pray as we pursue the next steps in my A-fib treatment, and hopefully after that, of the many additional ramifications of my Addison's Disease; also that I will qualify for home therapy to improve my balance problems!

I so much miss coming to worship services and visiting with everyone, especially in the Easter season, and am so sorry not to yet hear and meet our new interim pastor, Neta Pringle. I hear good things about her!

Grateful love,  Carol Hiebert

Thank you for all of your prayers, cards, visits, phone calls, and yes, soup!  This has been a long and difficult recovery filled with complications (Murphy's Law). The incision still has a way to go before it is closed, but I am happy to say that I am finally feeling stronger and have a bit more stamina. I hope to see you in church soon.
