What makes a Wellsian?
Wells' long and rich history informs the foundation of everything we do here. Walking within its Gothic halls, you will find that the past and the present meet in harmony on the Wells campus. Here is a tiny bit of Wells history:
Henry Wells (top left) was one of the first to found a higher education institution for women in New York State. Wells College started with just one building in 1868, the Main Building (top right), recognizable by the bell tower that still rings today.

Each generation of Wellsians (1970s, bottom left; 1980s, bottom right) hailed from different backgrounds and locations. In this tranquil lake-side village, students carved out their own unique piece of the world.
Now Wells is almost 150 years old. Here's what our alumni and current students have to say about what makes a true Wells experience.

"Before leaving for college, I had never truly left home before...Wells bolstered in me a philosophy passed down to me by my grandfather: to Dare. And studying abroad in France and backpacking around Europe gave me the chance to put my grandfather's wisdom into practice...I didn't know going into Wells what I wanted to do, but opportunities like this one set me in a direction in which I could excel. "Being from New York City, this school is the opposite of everything I'm environmentally used to back home...I shape my personal experience within the Wells community by getting involved...If I allowed myself to stay in my own bubble, I might not have befriended so many new people."
