2015 Les Hauts de Milly Chablis 1er Cote de Lechet
There is Chablis ( virtually always good) and the there is truly exquisite Chablis. This Lechet is exquisite with passion fruit combined with tangerine peel, flinty backbone and racy structure. The middle is big, framing both tropical and citrus components. Only 20 percent of this Chardonnay sees oak leaving the finish velvety yet crisp. $32.00 per 10% of any combination of 12.  Rex

Some of you may remember when we started out distributorship, we inherited Vocoret Premier Cru Chablis...both Montee de Tonnerre and the Cote de Lechet.  If my memory on price serves me...it was in the $40 range.  What I do remember without a doubt was how wonderful they were.  When I saw Cote de Lechet on the label of the wine we were about to taste...I was ecstatic and eager.  Glad it was first on the list. I immediately fell in love with it, kept a glass for later.  The flowers on the nose are wonderful and the wine has a rich and long soft finish.  Rex explains the limestone better than me.  I just want to drink it!!  320 cases produced.  M

Rooted in Kimmeridgian limestone, this polished wine presents a lovely pale yellow color. The vibrant bouquet evokes peach, apricot and wild flowers. On the palate, sophisticated fruit flavors mix with limestone aspects and slight hints of vanilla. The very complex finish suggests whispers of smoke and lime zest. It is aged in 80% stainless steel and 20% barrel. No new oak was used.

Les Hauts de Milly is a new label from respected artesian Chablis producer Domaine Bernard Defaix. When Bernard and Monique Defaix began their work in 1959, the domain covered a little more than 4 acres. After much hard work and steady investment, the estate now covers nearly 70 acres in Chablis and 14 acres in Rully (Côte Chalonnaise). Since the late 1990's, the domain has been managed by Bernard and Monique's two sons, Sylvain and Didier Defaix. Didier manages the vineyards while Sylvain is in charge of vinification and ageing. The estate is located in the village of Milly, less than 1 kilometer northwest of Chablis. The property was certified organic in 2009 by Ecocert.

2014 Domaine Gerard Sewuin "Terroir du Domaine" Gevrey Chambertin
The nose on this Gevrey is filled with violets, white pepper and Indian Spice. The cherry is bright and red at its core and then becomes darker with brambles through a long finish. There is a wild berry and spice aspect to this Burgundy which is constantly changing and which can leave you contemplating the wine as it changes. Amazing. $54.00 for Gevrey Chambertin! 10% of any combination of 12
118 six pack cases produced. The Seguin family planted this vineyard in 1850.  Rex

Rex bought all there was in the states.  Rightfully so.  I looked at my notes and they are blank.  Why?  It was so good, I did not need to write anything.  We had tasted 3 other Gevreys last week...this is the one!!  M

True to its name, "Terroir du Domaine" is a cuvée with a strong sense of place and a great soul. Wonderful sweet red cherries are enlivened with hints of leather and spice in the nose. The palate reveals a dense and compact core of dark fruits and rustic tones. Overall, it is compact and shows grace as well as power. This cuvée is sourced from various plots in Gevrey. It is aged 15-18 months in barrels that are 1-2 years old.

Domaine Gérard Seguin can trace its roots back to the mid-1800's, when Alexis Seguin was a winemaker in Gevrey-Chambertin as well as an expert in grafting vines. The phylloxera outbreak allowed him a unique opportunity to showcase his talents, as he was one of the first in Burgundy to graft vines to American rootstock to fight the disease. Today this small family estate covers 16 acres, most of which are in Gevrey and Gevrey 1er Cru vineyards, with the remainder spread between Chambolle, Fixin, and Marsannay. The wines made here show remarkable class. The use of new oak is slight in order to preserve the authenticity of each parcel's terroir.
