An worthy opportunity to help young women!
One of the guest speakers at this year's Metropolis Clergy/Laity Assemby on Friday afternoon will be Allison Meyers, the Director of Street's Hope.  You may have received communication from National Philoptochos last year introducing Human Trafficking as a new initiative.  The goals is to help victims of human trafficking by working with agencies that assist these victims.

Street's Hope is a local Denver area non-profit agency which provides holistic restorative services to adult women escaping sex trafficking and the commercial sex industry and nurtures the resilience needed to heal, transform and thrive. They began this work in 2004 and have continued to grow and develop as an organization over the years, implementing evidence-based and trauma informed services. Now, as the only residential program serving adult women in Colorado, they aspire to continue to grow and spread education and awareness.

Our Metropolis Philoptochos has asked that each member purchase a $25 gift card to either Target of Walmart, which we will then give to Allison for the women at Street's Hope.
We can accept your donation at the Philoptochos table or via our credit card link at the end of this calendar.   Please make sure to state in the memo section that it is for Street's Hope and we will purchase the gift card for you.

Looking back to the month of April:
  • Egg Dying: Many thanks to  Teresa Katopodes, Elaine McCoy and Phyllis Kennebeck and their team for volunteering to dye and wrap over 1000 eggs for Anastasi.
  • Bread Baking: Also, many  thanks to Yiota Anadiotis and the many ladies who came to help make over 160 Breads for the Palm Sunday bake sale.  We sold out and their efforts contributed to a very successful Palm Sunday bake sale.
  • Bake Sale:  Our heartfelt thanks to all the ladies who brought the wonderful bake sale items and to all those who helped out with the sale.  Early numbers indicate we raised nearly $3000.00 to transform the lives of Orthodox children visiting Children's Hospital.
  • Lunch in the Park: we served 130 lunches to the homeless. Thank you to the volunteers this month for their tireless efforts.
  • Adopt a Colorado Kid is one of Philoptochos' new service projects.  The efforts of Teresa Katopodes and other members helped a young adult girl, leaving foster care, begin a new start in a studio unit with donations of much-needed household items.
