"America's Best High Schools" - Another Gold Medal win for Jones!
Dear Jones Family,
We all have much to be happy about at Jones College Prep. Our students continue to make us proud with their academic, athletic, leadership, and creative achievements. It is also gratifying when our school's achievements are recognized nationally.
In its annual "America's Best High Schools," US News and World Report ranks JCP #3 in Illinois and #110 nationally out of 22,000 American public high schools. This represents an improvement from last year's ranking of #4 in the state and #130 nationally. In addition, Jones is ranked #31 nationally among magnet/selective high schools, and #210 nationally for our STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) programs.
While this is very exciting, it is also a challenge to all of us to keep JCP moving forward as a learning community. We must not rest on our laurels, but instead continue to strive for even greater opportunities for our kids to build and demonstrate their knowledge and skills as scholars and as citizens of our great nation.
Other recent and upcoming highlights:
- Spanish Honor Society: Our Spanish Honor Society inducted 29 new members on April 27. The organization now has a total membership of 104.
- TEDx: JCP students presented our first TEDx event on April 25. Nine student speakers presented ideas from art to capturing the little moments of our lives.
- "Cupcake Day": May 1, is "Cupcake Day" at JCP, the day when students report their college decisions for the fall. All of us will be decked out in our college gear to celebrate this great milestone for the Class of 2017. Kudos to our terrific counselors for all they do in guiding our graduates toward this important goal.
- AP Exams: May 1 is also the beginning of Advanced Placement (AP) testing, and we will have a record number of students in all four grade levels taking on these challenging exams that are such great preparation for college success. AP exams continue until May 12.
- ALAS Fest (May 5) and Asian Showcase (May 12) are just around the corner. These cultural showcases are always a big hit with students and parents. Please see the school website for details.

Annual Fund
|
There is still time to make a gift to the FOJ Annual Fund. Help us make our $200,000 goal!
Your donations are used to bridge the gap between what CPS allocates to run the school, and what it really takes. This year alone FOJ has funded a myriad of grants for clubs, classrooms, teams and campus productions. These are the opportunities for our students that set Jones apart. FOJ funds are also used to help maintain staffing and programming during these challenging times facing the district.
Make your contribution go even farther. Nearly 20% of funds raised this year are attributable to
matching donations from corporations and other businesses. Be sure to check if your employer will match your 2016/17 contribution.
Thank
you for helping to make JCP an exceptional school.

TEDx at Jones

First Ever TEDx Talks at Jones
On April 25th, JCP student and faculty organizers hosted the school's first-ever TEDx event. A TEDx event is a local gathering featuring live TED-like talks as well as videos of previously recorded TED talks. The mission of the TEDx program is to effectively communicate ideas worth spreading. While TEDx events are independently coordinated, the community facilitators of the event are required to follow a set protocol.
See the list below of the talented students and dedicated faculty advisors who worked hard to produce an inspiring and impressive evening of talks. The coordinators, Abby Barton and Olivia Landgraff, introduced the eloquent and moving talks created and delivered by the five JCP student speakers as well as the two TED videos they chose to include in the program.
The Jones TEDx event will be held annually. Student auditions for next year's program will take place in the fall. Videos of the first TEDx event will be available shortly on the JCP website and a future FOJ newsletter.
