SDA Church on St. Maarten Sheds Light
on improved Police – Community Relations
~ St. Maarten ~ March, 2017

In a bid to improve the level of service offered by the police force, the Ministry of Justice on St. Maarten launched “Project Customer Friendly Upgrade.”   The initiative allows the community to provide much needed assistance for enhancing the facilities of the island’s police department.

The Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church continues to be beacon of light reflecting Christ to the community and, in a symbolic gesture, presented a monetary donation which will facilitate an upgrade of the lights at the entrance of the police headquarters.

Pastor Vashni Cuvalay, Coordinator of SDA ministry on the island, expressed the enthusiasm of the Church about such community engagements:  “We are always happy to assist.  We see this as an important opportunity to [expand] the partnership of the church and its regard for those for those who sacrifice their lives to promote law and order.  We hope that as a result of our contribution, the members of the force will have a more pleasing environment [that is conducive] to work, as they serve . . . St. Maarten.”  The Church plays an integral role in the well-being of the community.

On behalf of the police department, Inspector Felix Richards, Program Coordinator and a member of the Church, expressed gratitude in a letter addressed to the Foundation of Seventh-day Adventist church on St. Maarten.

The active SDA Church on St. Maarten is served by a pastoral staff of five dedicated workers; operates an accredited institution for students in elementary/ primary school; and, is engaged in neighborhood ministry to three language groups (French, English, and Spanish) coordinated by the North Caribbean Conference.  In March, 2017, a new group of believers, born out of an evangelistic campaign conducted by Evangelist Claudius Morgan, began worshipping together, thus bringing the number of congregations to nine.
