IMPORTANT INFORMATION

PLANNING AHEAD:  St. Aloysius School will hold the Catholic Schools Week Open House on January 28th. Please help us spread the word to your friends and family.
Prospective families can pre-register at www.sasncct.org.

WE NEED YOUR HELP: Thank you to the many families who took an "Open House" sign to be displayed on their lawn.  If you would like to help out displaying signs, please email Maria Naughton at [email protected] to reserve one.  We had VERY  positive  feedback from the signs, and hope we can count on your help again!

Do you have news to share?
Please email pictures and information to us at [email protected] by noon on Thursday to be included in that week's newsletter.  Thank you!

We know our staff members are great, but here are some things you don't know.
This week featuring
Mrs. Naughton
(Admissions)

1.) What is your favorite childhood book?
I always loved to read as a kid.  I had lots of favorites, especially Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, and Little Women, and I really enjoyed Cheaper by the Dozen.  But my all-time favorite book was Where the Red Fern Grows.  What is not to love about a boy who worked so hard to get his own dog? I loved reading about their adventures, and the special bond they developed.  It was a very touching story with lots of life lessons.

2.) What is your dream vacation?
If money and time were not an issue, I'd love to drive around the United States, exploring and photographing all the National Parks and tourist sites in every state.  However, I'd settle for two weeks on the beach!

3.) Where were you born?
I was born in Stamford, CT.  I currently live about 3 miles from where I grew up, so as you can see, I haven't gone very far.

4.) What is the most daring thing you have ever done?
The most daring thing I have ever done was walking backwards off a cliff!  I was rapelling in upstate New York, so I had lots of ropes on, but that first step over was the hardest part!

Alleluia Alleluia
"The Virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and they shall name him Emmanuel."

Dear Parents,

As we look forward to lighting the last candle of the Advent wreath, on Sunday, Christmas Eve, I pray that we all will be drawn closer to God as we remember His love for us in sending His Son to be the Savior of the world, and we, in turn, will share the gift of His love with all those around us.

The beautiful voices of Christmas Carolers were heard throughout the school building on Thursday morning.  A big shout out goes to our S.L.A.M. students for treating us to the musical tradition from yesteryear!

I want to thank Fr. Rob for hosting a great Christmas gathering at the rectory for our faculty and staff.  The array of hors d'oeuvres and spirited company made for a perfect Christmas celebration!

The Christmas Dances held for both the upper and lower schools were a great success.  Thanks to our exceptional community of parent volunteers, who organized fun activities and created a perfect "Winter Wonderland" for the children.

Fourth and fifth grades embarked on the Polar Express, at the IMAX theater. The 3D movie made the adventure to the North Pole come alive. "The Polar Express" IMAX movie is based on the 1986 Caldecott Award-winning book by Chris Van Allsburg. The story follows a young boy on his magical journey to visit Santa Claus.

In addition, both children and faculty enjoyed "Christmas Sock" and "Santa Hat" days. They enjoyed class parties, festive games, treats, and crafts. Thanks to all the class moms and volunteers who stepped up to make this season special!

Grades 3-8 celebrated the Sacrament of Reconciliation. This is the time for all to reflect on how we can be more like Jesus by recognizing what we have done wrong and ask for God's forgiveness.

Merry Christmas and best wishes to a healthy and Happy New Year!

God Bless You!
Mr. Bardhyl Gjoka

Welcome back to S.L.A.M Spotlight!

Since our last submission, S.L.A.M. students have done multiple activities and learned even more to benefit the school, including continuing our successful Walking Buddies, Announcement Crew and  Art Apprentices. Recently,S.L.A.M has begun tutoring younger students in math.

In our S.L.A.M training session on December 13th, Nancy Leville was invited speak. Nancy is a twenty-year-old New Canaan resident who has founded her own organization, Save God's Kids, which is a gentrification project that works on providing healthy food and recipes to urban communities that do not have any.

This program also provides religious education to kids, and from her speech learned that God always has a plan for us and that we're never too young to start something that you believe in, as the organization was founded when she couldn't find an apple in NYC at age 15, not much older than the current S.L.A.M members. We learned  that you will always have setbacks in life but that we need to be resilient and persevere. Currently, the organization effectively uses social media to publicize the campaign: it is being put on the Jesus Daily Facebook page with over 99 million followers and even Fox News.

With our festive spirit at heart, S.L.A.M members carolled across the school yesterday morning  delivering classics such as Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, Jingle Bells, and Joy to the World. Showing Christmas spirit, we also handed out candy canes and had a great time overall.
Tune in January of 2018 for some more news from our S.L.A.M. students!

Merry Christmas from S.L.A.M.
