Williston Mayor Howard Klug officially announced he will seek re-election in June 2018. Klug declared his intention during the Legislative Social on Monday, Dec. 18 at The Williston. The event was co-sponsored by the Williston Area Builders Association and Williston Regional Economic Development. The networking event allowed area legislators and publicly funded organizations to begin strategizing for the 2019 Legislative Session. The mayoral election will be held June 12, 2018.

Kayla Hughes has returned to her hometown and opened Lila Salon and Boutique in the Downtown Plaza.
A new business has opened its doors in the Downtown Plaza. Veteran hair stylist Kayla Hughes recently opened Lila Salon and Boutique. The salon specializes in hair cuts, colors and wedding updos. Hughes offers organic salon products for everything including color, makeup and nail polish. Scheduling an appointment is easy; just visit her online scheduling page  Lila Salon and Boutique. STAR Fund awards up to $65,000 for G-Style Transport Expansion

The Williston City Commission has awarded up to $65,000 to help a local truck company expand. The Williston STAR Fund grant combined with a two-to-one match from the Bank of North Dakota will help G-Style purchase the $1.43 million building it is currently leasing. The family-owned company, which started in 2004, expects to more than double its workforce over the next two years. Currently, G-Style Transport has more than 50 employees. G-Style transports drill cuttings, drilling waste fluid, aggregate, fresh water, production water, equipment and much more.

People ask why Starboard's Lenny Johnson moved here from California. They're thinking it was probably for the oil, but he was in North Dakota before the last boom was a Bakken twinkle in Wall Street's eye. Johnson was a recent presenter at 1 Million Cups, a monthly Williston event that brings new entrepreneurs together with seasoned business owners and community leaders. While the store's name might evoke skate apparel, Starboard actually sells a variety of trendy clothing. It is owned by Johnson and his step-brother Jeff. How such a store came to be in Williston, even as retail has begun a downward slide nationwide, is a bit of a winding road. Read More

Crosby Chamber's Buy Close By Program encourages Restaurant Visits

The Crosby Area Chamber's Buy Close By program is kicking up a notch with a new passport program encouraging visits to local restaurants. Passports available at local restaurants encourage people to collect stamps from six of 10 businesses listed who sell or serve food. A diverse panel of professionals, law enforcement and city officials were on hand Wednesday night to get answers and start the conversation of dealing with the issue of opioid addiction.  Opioids can be extremely dangerous and are not like other controlled narcotics such as marijuana, methamphetamine and cocaine explained Dr. Curtis Small from CHI St. Alexius Williston:  "If you get too much of it, it can go into your brain and make the breathing part of your brain shut off. Williston Salvation Army seeks Donations for Christmas Fundraising Campaign

The Christmas fundraising campaign of the Williston Salvation Army is running dangerously behind. As of Dec. 18, total donations to the Williston Salvation Army had reached only $84,500. On the same date last year, total donations were just over $116,500. "That's a shortage of $32,000," said Captain Cappy Moore, co-leader of the Williston Salvation Army. "Without help, we won't reach our $183,000 Christmas fundraising goal." Read More

Gov. Doug Burgum today announced he will deliver the 2018 State of the State Address on Jan. 23 at Minot State University. The governor will highlight the state's challenges and successes from the past year and outline his vision and agenda for the future. Today marks the one-year anniversary of Burgum and Lt. Gov. Brent Sanford taking the oath of office. The State of the State Address will begin at 10 a.m. Jan. 23 in Ann Nicole Nelson Hall on the MSU campus. Busch Ag to sell Elevator in Sidney

A company official has confirmed that Busch Agricultural Resources, LLC will halt its malt barley contracting program in Sidney and will seek to sell the elevator. The company will contract one final crop of malting barley to be planted in the spring of 2018 and harvested in the fall of 2018 to be delivered to the Sidney elevator. Each farmer will receive the same bushel allocation as last year, 2017, if they decide to be part of the 2018 program. The official noted that Anheuser-Busch is making the announcement now so that growers have time to adjust their farm plans and rotation appropriately.  Read More

The benefit will begin at 5 p.m. with taco in a bag followed by a live auction at 7 p.m. at the Old Armory. Proceeds will benefit the family of 15-year-old Kailin Pippenger. Kailin is recovering from a spinal chord injury she suffered in a car accident in October.
