This is a milestone year for the St. Bernards Medical Group Health & Fitness Expo.

Helping Students Stay Healthy with Pre-Participation Evaluations

Pre-Participation Evaluations at the St. Bernards Medical Group Health and Fitness Expo

A.J. Aycock is a star athlete who underwent a pre-participation evaluation during the 2016 Expo. The simple screening may have saved his life.

General pre-participation evaluations are mandatory in the state of Arkansas for teens in grades 7-12. St. Bernards offers an EKG in addition to the screening. This test, paired with the health screenings, keeps kids safe, as any major heart defect or other health issue is detected in advance.

Pre-participation evaluations will again be offered at the St. Bernards Medical Group Health & Fitness Expo.

You can register your child for a screening and see the full schedule at  stbmdexpo.com. Deadline to register online is April 19.

Mammograms save lives. Just ask Misty Blake, who underwent a mammogram at last year's Expo and was diagnosed with breast cancer a few days later.

For the seventh consecutive year, women who qualify can receive free screening mammograms aboard the St. Bernards Mobile Women's Health Unit at Expo on Saturday, April 22.

Women who want to know whether they quality for the free mammograms simply can follow the pink ribbons to the Hames Room on the lower level of the Convocation Center to talk with women's imaging representatives.

  • At least 40 years of age
  • Have no health insurance coverage
  • Have no current breast problems (lumps, discharge, etc.)

Miss America to Attend Expo on Saturday, April 22

Miss America 2017 Savvy Shields
The reigning Miss America 2017, Savvy Janine Shields of Fayetteville, will be a special guest at the St. Bernards Health & Fitness Expo on Saturday, April 22.

Shields will be available Saturday for photos and autographs, and she also will be an "assistant" to one of the guest chefs in the Healthy Cooking Kitchen.

During her reign, Shields is serving as a national goodwill ambassador for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. Her personal platform is "Eat Better, Live Better."

A senior at the University of Arkansas, she is promoting her personal platform this year as she travels the country in an effort to educate people on how the foods we eat make an impact on our lives as a whole.

Check the Healthy Cooking schedule, then come a little early to be sure you get a seat to see Miss America at work in the kitchen.
Ready, Set, Run! Doc Rock & Run

The kick-off event for this year's
Health & Fitness Expo will be Doc Rock & Run, a certified run that does more than give the weekend's activities a high-energy start.

Set for 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 22, the race has attracted runners from a multi-state region who enjoy 5Ks and half marathons and will get Expo activities going even before the doors of the Convocation Center open to area residents.

The races benefit the St. Bernards Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, the only NICU in the eastern part of Arkansas. Organizers hope the special event raises even more funds to add to the $50,000 the race collectively has contributed in previous years.

Runners taking part in the half marathon will have a start time of 7:30 a.m. Saturday morning, while those running the 5K will start at 8 a.m.

A cash prize will be divided among the top five male and female half marathon finishers. All half marathon participants will receive hoodies and all 5K and half marathon finishers will receive medals. All runners will be able to enjoy a post-race party.
