There's something to be said for each night of the week: Friday/Saturday = weekend; Thursday is 'almost there'; Wednesday is over-the-hump, Monday is 'back to work'. What about Tuesdays? What's so special about Tuesdays? Well at the MACC: Tuesdays mean Music! For one thing, the annual School Band Concerts...just one of the community-enriching programs made possible by your support.
The concerts are offered free of charge to the public and are a great opportunity for the young musicians as well as their families and friends. Everyone enjoys the fact that Hawai'i's premier venue is available not only to the finest musicians and dancers from around the world, but ALSO to the finest school-age musicians from right down the street. What a boon for Maui students to perform on the same world-class stage that has hosted Yo-Yo Ma, and be able to let their talents shine to the fullest in the Castle Theater.
This is just one of the components in our arts education mission -- which is not just about learning and honing a craft, but presenting it to the public. With this in mind, we hope our young Maui artists will use their experiences in the theaters and gallery at Maui Arts & Cultural Center as a launching pad into a successful future in, and with, the arts ... OR whatever it is that this experience may inspire them to be passionate about. Whatever they choose, we just hope that this experience at the MACC can inspire them to excellence.
This past week, the Tuesday evening of students' Music at the MACC was pre-empted by the opportunity to host the luminary Carlos Santana in the A&B Amphitheater/Yokouchi Pavilion. But it all fits: proceeds from the Santana concert also help support the community events that the MACC is able to offer. With over 1550 events a year at the MACC, there are multiple events happening every day. Whether it is with the next generation of aspiring musicians, or with an inspiring musician who has influenced a generation, you can see it all -- even on a Tuesday @ the MACC!
( some of the brass section have already been seen in this missive, as part of our Artists in the Community program)
Most of the school band concerts in March, April and May are traditionally scheduled on Tuesdays... But one of the Tuesday evenings this year became an opportunity for a great amphitheater concert night with Carlos Santana and his band: an invigorating and inspirational experience for us all!
