New County Program Registers Students to Vote via Text
Contra Costa County Elections office reaches out to young voters
I'm excited to spread the word about a new youth voter registration program launched by the Contra Costa Elections office.

All high school students in Contra Costa County can text their school name to 2Vote (28683), and receive a reply text with a link to quick, easy voter registration tools.

The link, which anyone can use, includes buttons that allow students who are 18-years-old or over to register, and 16- and 17-year-olds to preregister to vote. There are also links to polling places and information on vote-by-mail.

The program also offers a mock election which asks students to "vote" on various youth-related topics for practice.

I'm a strong supporter of innovative ways to help people vote, and proud that Contra Costa is taking this step. Voting is the backbone of our democracy.

This high school texting program requires you to enter the name of your school. (It works with all high schools in the County.) Us older folks can also access voter registration via text, by texting  28683 and entering  ContraCosta.

The elections division launched the new high school program as part of California's High School Voter Education Week, April 17th to 28th. The program is a permanent addition!
