Wellness Tip: Allergies

Mast cells are the part of our immune system that are responsible for allergic reactions. When a mast cell comes in contact with a toxin, it releases stored granules of chemicals that cause inflammation, leading to everything from rashes, headaches, and digestive issues to asthma and anaphylaxis.

While some people can react strongly to individual triggers (peanuts, cigarette smoke, bee stings), most people have smaller mast cell degranulations throughout the day to things like heat, caffeine, alcohol, chemical pollutants such as perfumes and cleaning products, dust, mold, pesticides, chemical food additives, and spicy foods, which often go unnoticed until, collectively, these degranulations add up to noticeable symptoms.

People can lessen the number and severity of allergic reactions by reducing their overall exposure to toxins, thereby reducing the toxic load their body has to process.

For additional information and resources about allergies, toxins, and mast cells, visit the Peter Kirk Wellness website.
Volunteer of the Month

Hip, Hip, Hooray for a job extremely well done! April Rickard absolutely rocked the house with her work on this year's school play! The Princess and the Pea was an incredible experience for our students.

Thank you, April, for your long hours, competent work, challenging moments, incredible attitude and positive energy. Through a difficult situation, you completely shined. We are so lucky to have you at the helm!

Till next year - The Little Mermaid!

Thank you, Justin Rostad!

Justin (son of Geordy and Amy Rostad) chose to accept donations for Peter Kirk PTSA in lieu of presents this year for his 9th birthday. Justin raised over $700 which will then be matched by his dad's company. Thank you Justin for your generosity!
Thank you, Dads!

A huge heartfelt thanks to Ron Rafter, Matt Kennedy, Josh Reiss, and Bill Cooper for spreading countless barrels of mulch around the school.

It was hard work -- and we appreciate it!
