RHS Mini-THON More Than Doubles Fundraising Goal
More than 400 Roxbury High School students, some alumni, and friends from surrounding districts spent last Friday night and early Saturday morning dancing the night away to raise money and support for the fight against pediatric cancer in the Roxbury High School Gymnasium.
Over the past three years, the RHS mini-THON team had raised $39,900 total and they wanted to raise the bar for themselves and shoot for a goal of $20,000, this year alone. With hard work, they ended up crushing that goal! As a wrap up to the night, the mini-THON team announced the amount raised, first deceiving onlookers and then revealing the final total of $50,876.82.

Roxbury Students Plan "Summer Kickoff," Invite Whole Town
The Roxbury High School Student Council is planning a new event it hopes will be become an annual rite: The "Roxbury Summer Kickoff."
Scheduled to take place May 20 by the Horseshoe Lake Park band shell and pavilion in Succasunna, the event "was created to bring the community together for one day where everyone is involved, all age groups invited and all types of activities are included," the student council said.
The Summer Kickoff will run from noon to 9 p.m., said Student Council President Kaila Mathis. She said the event began as an idea for a gathering of Roxbury High School clubs.
Tickets are $5 per person or $3 for those who come with a canned food donation for Roxbury Social Services.
The student council created an
online "EventBrite" page where tickets can be purchased. On the page, the student council urged people or groups that are involved in fundraisers to consider setting up a booth at the Kickoff.

Competitive Relay Propelling Roxbury Girls
Bridget Doherty might not really enjoy running the 400 meters. But being part of the Roxbury 4x400 is quite possibly the highest honor this spring.
And Doherty, a sophomore, is determined to keep her spot. All four of the current squad - Doherty, juniors Jess Cammarata and Karly Forker, and senior Alexis Smith - are competing with each other, and holding off teammates, for the opportunity to run.
That intensity has spread on and off the track, particularly after the 4x4 competed at the NJSIAA Meet of Champions outdoors, and then New Balance Indoor Nationals.
"A lot of people look up to us, which is awesome," said Smith, who plans to sign a National Letter of Intent with Lehigh on Wednesday. "I feel like it's an honor. The best part of being part of the 4x4 is how close we are. Our small team of four is a family. Without any one of them, it's not the same. We're each other's motivation to get through the pain. We want to do it for each other."
With a deep outdoor team, Roxbury coach Laura Schmidt plans to "test everybody out and see who's going to step up" this spring. That means the four coveted relay spots could be up for grabs.
The present 4x400 is determined to win the Morris County Relays and championship titles, better their 15th-place 3:58.97 from last spring's MOC - but much sooner than June - and qualify for outdoor nationals.

Gaels Open Season on Golf Course
The Roxbury High School golf team got off to a flying start in its season-opening match last Wednesday.
Senior captain Tom Fleming, junior Shane Miller, junior Zack Zieba, and freshman Will Fulton finished in the top four respectively to lead Roxbury to a 157-237 victory over Mount Olive at Mine Brook Golf Club in Hackettstown.
Roxbury is looking for its third straight Northwest Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) title, which it has shared the past two seasons with traditional powers rival Randolph and West Morris Central.

Roxbury Golf off to a Great Start
The Roxbury High School golf team has taken to the links with force this spring, playing its way to a 4-0 record.
Roxbury, on Wednesday, continued its winning streak by placing 5th overall in a 17-team shootout at the Berkshire Valley Golf Course in the Kinnelon Classic. Zach Zieba placed in the top ten among 70 golfers followed by Tom Fleming and Shane Miller who placed 11th and 12th.
The day before, the team defeated West Morris at Black Oak Golf Club 172-202. The Gaels have also outplayed Mount Olive, Morris Knolls and Jefferson.

Roxbury Applied Music Program
Mid-Year Registration for Grades 5-12
Roxbury's Applied Music Program is one of the most celebrated after school programs in the region. Blessed with award-winning music educators offering world-class instruction, the program nurtures local talent, empowering students to pursue careers in entertainment well after graduation.
This is a district-wide program that provides a high-quality enhancement to classroom instruction. Teachers are all specialists on their instrument or vocal specialty. All of our teachers are trained professional musicians and highly qualified in their instrument of expertise. Private study is extremely valuable to the individual student and highly encouraged. Private study is offered as enrichment, NOT remedial instruction. It is encouraged for the complete development of each students' potential as a performing musician and/or artist.
We are beginning mid-year registrations for those students interested in taking private lesson. Once the form and registration fee are received, your child will be assigned a weekly lesson time.

RHS Financial Literacy this Summer
The New Jersey Department of Education has mandated that all students are required to complete a course (2.5 credits) in Financial Literacy to be eligible for graduation. Due to the number of students requesting to take this course, we have decided to offer the class as an online summer course (we will continue to offer the traditional Financial Literacy course at Roxbury High School as well).
The course will be available to Roxbury High School rising juniors and seniors only during the summer of 2017. The course will begin on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 and run for approximately seven weeks. This interactive course will include writing assignments, labs, quizzes, and tests.
The final exam must be taken in person at Roxbury High School during the week of August 14, 2017. If the student does not fulfill all of the requirements for this class, no credit will be given and the appropriate grade will be listed on the student's transcript.
