Dear NBCA Pastor,
We are writing to invite you to apply as a pastoral candidate for participation in the
MMBB Lilly Initiative Strategic Pastoral Excellence Program (SPEP). The Program,
supported by a grant from Lilly Endowment, Inc., is designed to recognize and support
significant pastoral leaders and their congregations through a curriculum that focuses on
personal and business financial skills.
The Strategic Pastoral Excellence Program is a three-year program that will place pastoral
leaders in a cohort with up to 20 pastoral leaders where participants will be led by a
skilled leader with expertise in financial literacy. The program will explore financial areas
from a variety of perspectives, including theological, practical and from a congregational
systems perspective. The goal is to create a solid financial foundation in the lives of
personal participants and to build skills necessary for healthy conversation around money
within congregations.
As a representative of NBCA in this program, these are the requirements from our
Convention to participate in the program:
- Registered NBCA Church
- Willing to attend: Mid-Winter Board, June Congress, Annual Session
- Willing to enroll in MMBB program (Retirement, Disability, Life Insurance,
- Survivor Benefits)
- Letter of Recommendation from State President
We are looking for Pastors who are serious about developing in the following areas:
- Promoting congregational stewardship
- Promoting and developing Mission and Discipleship within the congregation
- Experience and success in promoting congregational growth
- Experience and success with managing congregational budget and administration
- Experience and success with managing staff and church leadership
