Alliance For Innovation: Comes to Tulsa

The City of Tulsa was chosen to host the 2017 Transforming Local Government Conference in April because of their outstanding and innovative initiatives. This national conference brings together cities from the US and Canada to hear what innovative programs other communities have done. The City of Tulsa as well as the City of Oklahoma City presented at the conference. There were sessions ranging from inventive approaches to community wide initiatives to programs designed to create a more powerful workforce.  More Information
Deadline May 15 th  to Apply for the Quality Communities Grant Program
OML has partnered with OU's Institute for Quality Communities to offer the Quality Communities Grant Program which will assist its members with up to 50% of the funding to those communities whose projects have been selected by OU's IQC for a project in their community. Applications are to be submitted to OU IQC and deadline to submit a request for assistance is May 15, 2017. Visit our website to download the brochure and for more information and application. Bring Your People Into the Light: Nominations Are Now Open
OML is now accepting nominations for the Don Rider Award. The Don Rider Award was first established in 1988 recognizing outstanding individuals who have made significant contributions to their community as well as their profession through personal growth and involvement. The award will be presented at the annual OML Conference in September.
 
The criteria for the selection of the nominee for this award are unquestionable morals and ethics, personal growth and development in their area of expertise, contributions of significance to the development of the municipality, examples of community and state involvement, and must be serving an OML member city or town for five years or longer.
 
Last year's Don Rider Award winner was former Norman Mayor Cindy Rosenthal. Rosenthal began her public service in Norman as a Ward 4 council member in 2004. She was elected as mayor in 2007, and re-elected in 2010 and 2013. She served OML as a Vice President and executive member of the Board of Directors.
 
MCO is also accepting nominations for the Mayor of the Year award. The two Mayor of the Year award recipients are recognized for their continued dedication and vision for their individual communities. The awards are given to one municipality of 5,000 or more and one municipality of less than 5,000 in population.
 
The Innovations award is in honor of a municipality that has shown its strength with an innovative idea that highlights the community.
 
 The nominations for these awards will be accepted until Friday, July 14, 2017.
 


Next New Officials Institutes Coming In June
Throughout the year OML provides an intensive educational program specifically tailored for newly elected and appointed officials as well as experienced officials who want to keep up-to-date on municipal issues. An officer is defined in 11 O.S. Section 1-102. The June Institutes will be held June 8th in Oklahoma City at the Francis Tuttle Center, Rockwell location and June 15th in Tulsa at the Tulsa Tech, Lemley Campus. The two June classes will be your last opportunity to fulfill your requirements for this fiscal year.  For more information, see the NOI page on our website.
