American Canyon Shifts To Voluntary Art Fee
Explicitly noting that BIA|Bay Area's legal challenge of Oakland's mandatory public art fee remains unresolved and that the city has several other fees in the works, American Canyon is considering a voluntary public art program. Its city council will consider a draft program on April 4, 2017, which would provide a framework that enables the city to accept public art donations, artwork loans and monetary donations to further the city's public art program. Albany Considers Affordable Housing Fee
The Albany City Council will deliberate on April 3, 2017, whether or not to pursue affordable housing impact fees based on a nexus study that purports to support fees up to $44 per sq. ft. on new residential housing and $113 to $240 per sq. ft. on commercial development. While Albany is a small inner East Bay community of less than 20,000 people, its nexus study was prepared as part of a coordinated work program for 12 jurisdictions in Alameda and Santa Clara counties. HomeAid's DeamCatcher Oakland shelter for homeless teens and exploited girls is nearing completion!
