Lovejoy High School

A Message from the Principal

Lovejoy HS News 04 24 17

Parents and Guardians,

It is difficult to believe we are in the final week of April, and there are only five weeks left in the school year. This week, we have two big events for LHS students. First, this Friday our NHS is hosting its annual Relay for Life event at the LHS Stadium that begins at 6:00 p.m. and will last until midnight. The other is the 2016-17 Prom that will take place at Southfork Ranch from 8:00 - 11:00 p.m.

As a reminder, next week begins our AP Exams (May 1 through May 12) and our EOC exams (May 2-May 5). As a staff, we are excited about our students having the opportunity to show what they have learned. Please read below for more information about student successes and upcoming events.

Sincerely ,

Chris Mayfield
Principal
Lovejoy High School
NOTE:
In an effort to be as efficient as possible, we prioritize our parent email as follows:
* New or time-sensitive topics of interest are at the top of the list
* Followed by the Calendar of Events and Activities
* Older items appear below the calendar until they become obsolete

Student Recognition

The Red Ledger online student newspaper and the Lovejoy News Network broadcast program totaled more than 50 individual and staff awards at the Interscholastic League Press Conference [ILPC] State Convention this weekend at the University of Texas at Austin.

The Red Ledger
The newspaper staff received the Gold Star, ILPC's highest award as one of the top five online newspapers in Texas this year. They also received a plaque for ILPC's highest rating, the Award of Distinguished Merit.
In the individual awards competition, Red Ledger staffers placed first in the state in Class 5A-1 in 21 of 28 categories. The staff also earned 13 silver medals, four bronzes and five honorable mentions for a total of 43 individual winners in categories for writing, graphics, photos, illustration, multimedia and social media.
Two staff members, juniors Nick Smith and Hannah Ortega, also received the Tops In Texas award for the best overall winner in the state, regardless of division. Smith won for sports news story for his coverage of volleyball playoffs. Ortega won for feature writing for her story on biology teacher Sadaf Syed. Both stories will be published in the Tops In Texas booklet next year.
Smith, Ortega, sophomore Parker Nolan and freshman Kelsey Carroll also earned enough total points to qualify for the UIL all-state journalism staff.
Click here for a complete list of winners.

This important work requires mastery of aseptic technique, the procedures that ensure patient safety and consistent, pathogen-free products.
