KNOW NOW: First Muslim Elected to Be State Party Chair

Tricia Preston, Executive Director of the  Vermont Council on World Affairs,  will moderate this KNOW NOW conference call with Mr. Faisal Gill. Join the conversation about President Trump's revised travel and refugee ban, the Democratic Party's agenda in Bernie Sanders' adopted state, and more: Thursday, April 27, at 2-2:30 PM ET

Two days before the Trump administration rolled out the new version of what critics call a Muslim ban, Vermont Democrats elected the nation's first Muslim to serve as State Party Chairman

Faisal Gill, a Burlington, VT attorney, was born in Pakistan and immigrated to the U.S. as a child. Gill served five years in the U.S. Navy's JAG Corps before entering Republican politics in Virginia. That led to a post in the Department of Homeland Security under President George W. Bush - a position he opted to leave after he was accused by news media of lying on his security clearance forms. He was later cleared of wrongdoing by the department. Gill switched political parties, moved to California, where he volunteered for Democratic campaigns, and then moved again to Vermont.

KNOW NOW conference calls feature global thought leaders hosted by WACA, as well as local authorities in government, business, academia and cultural fields who are identified and moderated by local Councils.
