Victories on Key HEC Priorities; Anti-Rooftop Solar Bill Needs Your Continued Opposition

As of this writing, SB 309, the intensely controversial anti-rooftop solar bill, hangs in the balance: will the Governor veto the bill or won't he?  Our hope is that he truly appreciates the depth of public opposition to this bill, and stands on the side of those homes, small businesses, congregations, and schools that seek to be powered by clean, sustainable energy.   Note that some of Indiana's most talented CEOs in the technology sector also came out in opposition to SB 309, arguing that SB 309 is anti-innovation and sends the wrong signal about Indiana!

It's not too late: Email the Governor at [email protected] and ask him to veto SB 309!

In the meantime, know that your advocacy this legislative session -- your calls and emails, and your attendance of legislative hearings and town hall meetings -- absolutely DID make a major difference.  Thanks to an outpouring of opposition -- especially from those who suffer from exposure to factory farm pollution -- HB 1494 was defeated .    Furthermore, thanks to strong advocacy, HEC and our many conservation allies secured new, dedicated money for the upkeep of Indiana's state parks.   (We'll give a more detailed update -- including some challenges this session -- in our next e-newsletter.)

If you would like to become even more involved in advocacy both in the Statehouse and across the state consider joining our volunteer program ! Our next training will be held on Wednesday, May 10th. Learn more here .

Join Us for this Final Weekend of Aveda Earth Month!

Thank you to all who have engaged with an Aveda salon or HEC during Aveda Earth Month. The month's final events are on Sunday, April 30:
  • InTouch SalonSpa Running Water 5K in Fort Wayne
  • Water Warrior Yoga with Bambu Salon, 3pm at Broad Ripple Park (if it rains, please meet at Nourish Wellness, 826 W. 64th St.)

You have until 8pm on Sunday to bid on the Aveda Earth Month Silent Auction. You could win some pretty incredible items while supporting our clean water initiatives! Aveda's support allows HEC to do work that protects our rivers, streams, and lakes from such threats as factory farm waste.

We'd like to is-SHOE a challenge.

As you know, we've been collecting gently-used shoes as a fundraiser for HEC. We're able to extend the shoe drive by a couple of weeks and need your old shoes! Our goal is to collect 7,500 pair of shoes and we're about 1/3 of the way there.

Will you help us blow our goal out of the water by committing to collect 10 pair of shoes in the next week and deliver them to one of the participating Aveda salons or the HEC office?
