The Answer Is Local Crab Meat!
Imported Jumbo Crab Meat in
Dire Straits!
Three of our partners comments on Pasteurized forecasts.

#1
Present wisdom has the market staying high on BSC (Blue Swimming Crab) through the summer months and potentially into the Fall.
Indonesia is the main source for BSC and should be going into high production season with April -May-June being the highest production months of the year.
What we are seeing presently is only moderate production increases out of Indonesia for April.
Raw material availability is problematic with plants engaging in daily battles for raw material to process due to the combination of lack of raw material and the increased competition by other facilities.
Expect to see higher and higher prices on Blue Swimming Crab (BSC) meat as we move forward along with tight inventory levels being the norm

Nothing good about this situation at all.
Overall inventories are extremely low - no matter who you are
Product is very tight and importers are scrambling to fill the pipeline
Prices are going up everyday and demand is through the roof.
Low inventories and summer season coming - just to simplify a perfect storm out there
Typical containers coming in are short big meat - Big meat defined as Colossal, Jumbo, Super and even lump
No doubt about it- the next 60 days are going to be tough on imports

#3
Still some weather issues, but we are also on the downside of the season.  There will be a little less fishing effort because of the fasting, but it won't have a big impact.  The factory shutdown and restart will have the biggest impact and lower August imports here.
We will have some small relief as these other countries come on line, but for a big price correction we need serious production from Indonesia and that starts in December 2017.

Looks as though we will have inventory for a few weeks but other options will have to be explored after Mother's Day for Super Lump and Jumbo Lump imported pasteurized.
