Weekly Update - April 27, 2017
From the Principal's Desk

Last week the accreditation team completed their assessment of our school. On Friday, Kari Staples sat down with me to share the team's top five areas they were impressed with at our school. The official assessment from the MNSAA Board of Directors will not be sent to us until later in May. Today I would like to share with you three of the top five areas of strength, then follow up next week with the next two areas to celebrate. Kari Staples, principal at St. Alphonsus Parish School stated the following:
St. Michael Catholic School is a warm and welcoming environment.
The team was impressed with our clean and bright buildings. The walls are decorated with relevant and meaningful student work. Both students and staff are extremely friendly and kind. It was noted that two accreditation team members had a ten minute conversation in the hall of the middle school building with some of our students. They were in awe of the students' ability to articulate their thoughts, hold a meaningful conversation and be so poised and respectful around adults.

St. Michael Catholic School Administrative Team works collaboratively together.

It was noted our leadership team of Fr. Thomas Walker, Laurie Maxwell and Nathan Meehling are consultative in nature with regular meeting times. To the team it was obvious that the administrative team truly enjoys working together for the success of both St. Michael Catholic School and Parish.

St. Michael Catholic School's Instructional Coach / Special Education Teacher Position is of the utmost value to the school community.

We were surprised by the fact that the team of teachers and principals reviewing our school felt this position was one of the greatest assets in our school and that it sets us apart from most other Catholic Schools who do not have this position. The team felt this position should be highlighted in both marketing materials and to current families wondering if families really understood what they have here at St. Michael. The team was in awe of the support that both teachers and students alike receive from the special education teacher. The position enables excelled students to be challenged, supports students' emotional and social needs and assists both students needing a little extra help academically.

Don't forget it's AprilFest weekend. I hope everyone gets a chance to enjoy this wonderful community event!
Blessing,
Mrs. Maxwell

SCRIP Statements

Scrip Statements are being mailed out the first week of May to those families on the $3600 plan that still have a balance on their account. You may continue making purchases toward your $3600 balance until May 15th. Those purchases will be added to your account. If you are unable to purchase the whole amount still owed by May 15th, your TADS account will be charged a prorated scrip fee based on what you have already purchased. For example if you have purchased $1800 in scrip and you still need to purchase $1800 to meet your $3600 obligation, but are unable to do so, the prorated amount of the scrip fee of $100 will be charged. You will be billed via TADS on June 1st for this prorated amount. Please contact Shawn Binkowski at 952-440-8103 if you have any questions on your balance.

Special orders can also be placed through the SCRIP program.  For a complete listing of retailers, visit  www.shopwithscrip.com/Shop/Product/Browse#?saved .  Please visit the school or parish office by Friday, May 10th  to place any special order requests.  Special orders will be delivered to school for pick-up within 1-2 weeks of the order date. Contact Monica Heil at [email protected]  with any questions you may have regarding the special order process.

Thanks for all of your help with Scrip.

Math Academy

Sister Melissa is offering the St. Michael Math Academy this summer for students entering high school or already in high school. The objective is to give students a head start in their math studies. Past students find it to be a very helpful program that makes math "much easier" during the school year and say that it cuts down homework time. We review familiar concepts and new concepts so they are familiar in the fall.

Classes meet the weeks of Aug 6th and 13th and cover both review and new math topics in a study group/discussion format. Classes are two weeks in duration, meeting two days per week. Students should attend the math class they signed up for in the fall.

Classes offered: geometry, honors geometry, algebra 2, honors algebra 2. Math analysis, pre-calculus, and calculus are available upon request. These classes are aligned to the math classes at PLHS, but they work for students attending other high schools as well.

Contact Sister Melissa for dates, times and syllabi.
