NETWORK LIAISON COMMITTEE

Hello CREW DC, nice to e-meet you!

Our vision and mission for the Network Liaison Committee is to develop and maintain an effective working relationship between CREW DC and CREW Network by actively increasing our communications efforts and participation in CREW Network functions. With that in mind, we are enthusiastically promoting the 2017 CREW Network Spring Leadership Summit scheduled for June 22-23 in Toronto, Ontario, CANADA.

The CREW Network Leadership Summit serves as a leadership event where participants receive leadership training from a strong lineup of insightful speakers who will provide valuable training and takeaways. The Summit presents numerous opportunities to exchange ideas and demonstrate skills in a supportive environment. All CREW DC members and non-members are encouraged to participate if you want to develop your leadership skills, expand your network outside of the local market, and/or become more involved in CREW DC and CREW Network. It is an excellent professional development opportunity.

Remember that CREW DC will give away one registration plus $350 in travel expenses to the lucky winner of our "One Word" contest. Deadline is THIS COMING TUESDAY, May 9th so don't forget to enter your word. For more information, read the "One Word" reminder in this editorial.

At this point, registered attendees for the Toronto Leadership are Phyllis Liebman Brill, President; Michelle Kilby, Past President; Mandi Wedin, Delegate; and Barb Mackin, President Elect; as well as Kate Howarth, Tabitha Brittain, Auja Little, Emily Haggerty, Elizabeth Pye, and Jenna Kirkpatrick Howard. Be sure to check out http://events.crewnetwork.org/2017spring/ for more details. If you have any additional questions, please don't hesitate to contact [email protected] or [email protected]

"After being a member of CREW DC for many years, I attended my first Leadership Summit in February 2017. I didn't realize what I was missing!! While the Annual Convention is fantastic, the Leadership Summit allows for more in-depth networking, outstanding leadership training, and the ability to exchange ideas in smaller groups. It is 1 1/2 days well spent networking and refining your leadership skills. I'm very much looking forward to reconnecting with the women I met in February at the June Summit." - Barb Mackin, Citizens Bank

PATH TO LEADERSHIP

CREW DC offers exciting opportunities for members to participate in the Path to Leadership. CREW's Board of Directors and Executive Committee play an important role in setting the strategic objectives of the Chapter, planning member programming, keeping current on industry and outreach efforts, and overseeing the financial health of our organization. CREW DC members interested in chapter leadership are invited to join us to learn about the various Board and Committee Chair positions on May 11th or May 25th. The Thursday, May 11th event will be held at Castro Haase's office at 2011 L Street, NW, Suite 750 in Washington, DC. Please click on this registration link to register.

DON'T FORGET

We are still completing the CREW Network Foundation Chapter Challenge. If you haven't contributed, please consider donating. We are still trying to meet 50% participation so please consider giving if you can. It doesn't matter how much! Your money can go towards the CREW Network Annual Scholarship Fund, the Canadian Scholarship Fund, the Scholarship Endowment, Industry Research, Career Outreach, or the Greatest Needs Fund. Your choice - just know that your money will make a difference!

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

As you may know, we are in the midst of both the Award nominations and the kick off of the Board nomination process with our first of two Path to Leadership discussions on May 11th. I've often found, throughout my own career, that it often takes someone else's ask to get another woman to participate; to take a chance; to step forward. At CREW, despite a membership base of more than 500 members, we are experiencing that same syndrome with a lower than expected participation in both the Awards nominations and Board nomination process. We know there are many deserving projects, transactions and women who should be recognized at the Annual Awards program. I would encourage you to step up; take that chance; be willing to compete! Take this opportunity to submit and be recognized for the great work you do! Similarly, I ask each of you to consider what membership in CREW DC means to you, how it fits into your life, your career goals. If you are interested in a leadership position, nominate yourself for one. CREW offers each of us a chance to lead and craft ourselves as leaders - skills that enhance our career paths. Not ready? Nominate others who you think would do a great job. As a member, you have a voice in shaping this organization. Take this opportunity to help recognize fellow CREW members for our Annual Awards program and for the available 2018 Board positions. - Phyllis Liebman Brill
