April 11, 2017
Today, we marked the Easter season with our Holy Week prayer service, which related the five sorrowful mysteries of Jesus' passion to the suffering of victims of human trafficking, the focus of our Lenten project.
We wish your family a blessed Easter season!
Our New Bell Schedule

As we have announced at numerous parent meetings and parent educational gatherings, De La Salle and Carondelet have been working on a new bell schedule since 2008.

A committee was formed with representatives from both campuses to research and recommend a bell schedule that would be more effective in terms of providing greater time for non-academic events and programming built into the daily schedule. This recommendation was received last year, and based on further input, was modified.  The collaborative efforts from both the De La Salle and Carondelet faculty and staff are greatly appreciated, as modifying the daily schedule at schools, especially schools that share students as we do, can be problematic.

Click here to download the new bell schedule.

We feel that this bell schedule provides the following advantages:
  • A more consistent and earlier release time at the end of the day
  • Less distress caused by the plethora of special schedules now in use
  • Less class time lost for modified scheduling needs
  • Instructional time ends at 1:55 p.m. on Thursday on the Carondelet campus, which creates less missed class time for athletes and students participating in extracurricular events
  • A dedicated time during the school day on Wednesday and Thursday for tutoring, office hours, club meetings, make-up testing and other academic opportunities for students
  • With the addition of X blocks for tutoring, make-up testing and other academic needs, students will now have a "sacred" lunch or "down-time" in the middle of the busy day
  • Two late start days for students
  • A more viable period 7 academic offering time slot for Carondelet in terms of teacher preparation and planning
For future reference, you can access our new bell schedule on the parent portal of our website under "quick links."
Bon Appétit! French Students Serve Delectable Dishes in Cooking Competition

On April 6, students in Mrs. Mammola's French 3 Honors course competed to impress a group of judges made up of Carondelet faculty and administration with tasty dishes representing French-speaking countries from around the world. This  contest  was part of a semester-long project in which the students have been assigned specific countries from the French-speaking world and have been asked to research them in-depth. Two dozen students prepared 12 unique dishes to represent their countries and gave oral presentations in French to the judges, which described and explained the cultural significance of the dishes.

"The most exciting part of the competition was the aftermath, when everyone was trying each other's foods and talking about the struggles they faced while preparing their dishes. I also enjoyed the freedom given to us by our teacher and the kitchen staff to make whatever dishes we wanted," said Kasey Madsen '19, winner of "Best Dish Overall" along with her partner, Grace Carlson '18, for their fabulous fondue dish representing Switzerland.
Students Explore Possible Career Paths

Students are invited to join us in the Center for Student Success for our lunch time career series. We will present valuable and exciting information about each path along with key information about related courses to take in high school, and explore colleges with strong programs in each field.

We have invited guest speakers who are experts in their fields and are excited to share their personal career paths with our students. Your daughter will also have a chance to ask questions and see if a particular career path is interesting to her! Click here for the schedule and more information about our guests.
