KEIRO® Recognizes Recipients of
2016 Grants Program
Grants Program Luncheon on Saturday, April 22 at
Japanese American National Museum

Nearly 200 community leaders attended luncheon to celebrate the impact of the 43 local organizations striving to serve Japanese American and Japanese older adults and caregivers.
Earlier this month, KEIRO announced the recipients of the $900,000 awarded through its inaugural Grants Program. During the luncheon, 2016 Grants Program Recipient Pearl Omiya, executive director of East San Gabriel Valley Japanese Community Center said, "We needed funding to expand our services to our older members and create opportunities for physical, mental, and social wellbeing. We thank KEIRO for supporting our efforts to better serve our seniors and our community."
KEIRO's Grants Program invests in qualified non-profit organizations and groups through a competitive review process. The grant proposals were reviewed and evaluated by an independent community-based Grants Review Committee. The 13-member committee assessed each proposal, conducted site visits, deliberated on each project, and presented a final docket of recommended grants to the KEIRO Board of Directors. Commenting on the review process, Grants Review Committee member Terry Hara said, "It was an honor and privilege to serve in such an important role. The Grants Program is a great opportunity to KEIRO to be able to help expand and support existing senior programs in our community."

Community leaders spoke about the impact of KEIRO's work to support older adults and caregivers in Los Angeles, Orange, and Ventura counties.
Keynote speaker, Dr. Ninez Ponce, associate director of the Center for Health Policy Research and principal investigator for the California Health Interview Survey, spoke about the demographics of our community and shared information about resources available to help grant recipients continue to serve the aging population.

In May, KEIRO will announce information on its 2017 grant cycle. Information will be available on our website and through our e-newsletter. KEIRO will conduct workshops throughout the summer to assist organizations with the application process. For additional information about the 2017 grant cycle, please email
