Mrs. Keogh recommends A Celebration of Beatrix Potter
In this lovely art book, more than 30 of today's favorite book illustrators come together to celebrate the books of Beatrix Potter. In honor of her 150
th anniversary, Wendell Minor, Tomie de Paola, Rosemary Wells and many others have collaborated on re-imagining some of Beatrix Potter's immortal characters.
My particular favorite is the foolish Jemima Puddleduck drawn by Paul Zelinsky. Her blithe ignorance of the fact that a fox is planning to cook and eat her is very funny. It's a reminder that Beatrix Potter, for all her pastel colors and winsomely drawn creatures, didn't shy away from the fact that cute animals can meet untimely ends.
This book is a wonderful homage to the talent of Beatrix Potter, and it shows that her art is still exciting and inspiring to readers and artists alike.
