Work on the Westheimer storm drainage, paving and streetscape improvements will likely shift to the final section of the north side of the road next week. Pavement work between Kirby and Eastside and between Buffalo Speedway and just west of River Oaks Boulevard is nearing completion. It is expected that traffic control will shift next week to the area between Eastside and the new pavement just east of Buffalo Speedway.
Once the traffic switch is complete, crews will begin demolition of the old roadway and installation of the new storm sewer system.
Lateral storm line work is now complete on Bammel and well underway on Sackett. Crews have completed storm installation on the east side of Sackett between Westheimer and Alabama and will spend the next week framing for concrete. Following concrete work, crews will reopen the impacted eastern half of the roadway and switch over to the western half, where lateral inlet leads and new sanitary line will be installed. Storm work on Elbert and the restoration of the Philfall/
Sackett intersection will be undertaken after the traffic switch as well. During construction, two-way traffic will be maintained, although on street parking will not be available.
Westheimer Reconstruction:
Kirby to Shepherd
Upper Kirby work on Westheimer between Kirby and Shepherd has been substantially complete since February, 2016 and has been awaiting removal of overhead utilities by various telecommunications companies prior to finalizing the back of curb area.
The only remaining utility on these poles is Comcast. Although Comcast indicated completion in late April, it has since communicated that problems encountered in the field have caused work to be delayed until May 11. CenterPoint Energy can remove poles upon completion of Comcast work.
Comcast is also the sole utility on the poles remaining between Kirby and Buffalo Speedway. Here they have indicated that work would be completed May 18. Look for further updates as this work progresses.
Bissonnet Reconstruction:
Kirby to Buffalo Speedway
Work on Bissonnet between Kirby and Buffalo Speedway was stopped late last year due to a contractor dispute. Work began between the Kirby intersection and Dincans on the north side of the street. Upper Kirby retained a second contractor to complete work on the impacted areas and reopen the roadway to traffic. This was completed just prior to the holidays. The remainder of the work has been repackaged for a new bid. The goal is to rebid the project in the next six to eight weeks and begin construction this summer.
