MCMS runner Justin Wachtel sets new
state and national running record

The State Middle School Track Meet was held recently in Lilburn at Parkview High School.  The winner of the 3200m ran a time of 9:52. Justin Wachtel came in second with a time of 9:55. The previous Georgia record middle school time for 3200k was 10:10.  After the race, it was announced the first and second place runner (Wachtel) broke the state record and they broke the national record during that race.  Justin now has the second fastest time for a middle schooler in the 3200m of all time in the United States.

Justin also had a silver medal finish in the 1600m the next day with a time of 4:45.  Others runners participating in the meet were Connor Battles (3200 M), Ava McKaillip (3200M), and Charlotte Wilcox (1600M).  They all did a great job representing Monroe County Schools.

Choosing the Best Parent Night is Monday
You are invited to Choosing the Best Parent Night on Monday, May 1st at 6 p.m. at the Monroe County Middle School Banks Stephens Campus.   Parents may use the second driveway and enter the doors of the cafeteria for the meeting. Choosing  the Best  is an abstinence and character education program that is offered to students in our middle and high schools. This presentation will include up to date information on many of the troubling trends in regard to teen's sexual behavior. This is a great opportunity for parents to learn some positive ways to deal with teen issues!  The featured guest speaker will be Clint Baskerville.

Cliff Baskerville is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  While obtaining his BA in Psychology and Communications he played cornerback for the UNC Football Team.  Upon graduating, he played professionally in the Canadian Football league.  After retiring from the CFL, he embarked on his next career-making a difference in the lives of our youth.  Cliff is currently the Vice President of the South East Region at Choosing the Best Publishing.  At Choosing the Best, Cliff has had the opportunity of working with thousands of teachers and teens across the country.  Through conducting teacher trainings, school assemblies, peer retreats, and relationship trainings.  Cliff has seen the immediate positive impact that teaching abstinence and character education can make in the lives of our teens.  Cliff's enthusiasm and passion for helping our children make healthy decisions have made him a positive influence and a role model for children all across America.

Although Cliff loves working with children and families across America his greatest joy is found in the work he does at home.  He is a loving husband of 15 years, and has three beautiful children.  He hopes that the love that is shared between his family shines so brightly that he can accomplish his mission and the purpose that he has on his life, which is to Impact a generation.
