New Year's Resolution? Try Superfoods!
Superfoods are the new bacon.
What is a SUPERFOOD? You’ve heard countless times about the nutritional benefits of “superfoods” and, while there’s no official scientific definition of a superfood, it’s generally accepted that they contain high levels of much-needed vitamins and minerals. They can also be a source of antioxidants, substances that shield our bodies from cell damage and help prevent disease. While there are a number of common foods that provide these nutrients, there is also an array of more exotic and less mainstream superfoods that are worth getting to know. You can get some of them right here at Kegel's Produce.

Try Dill Mashed Potatoes at Your New Year's Party
...they're kind of a big "dill".
Dill Mashed Potatoes
Serves: 8
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 15 minutes

Needed:
  • 5lbs peeled and quartered Yukon Gold Potatoes (KP #10310)
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 6 tablespoons chopped fresh dill (KP #12235)
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

Directions:
  1. Place potatoes in large pot of water. Bring to a boil until the potatoes are tender. Drain.
  2. Place potatoes back in pot. Add remaining ingredients and mix with a hand meld mixer until whipped.
Tomates
Tomatoes are currently listed as EXTREME in the market. There are ongoing gaps in production coming from Florida and shortages from Mexico. Hurricane Irma devastated several growing regions in Florida with catastrophic flooding and we are still seeing effects. We anticipate some relief starting the week after Christmas.

Lemons
Due to the fires in California, lemons are scarce. With growers having to evacuate due to the extreme smoke and power outages, loads are unable to be completed for the time being.
