JUNIOR RETREAT
Juniors gather to reflect

On Friday, April 21, the juniors took their annual retreat at the Basilian   Spirituality Center.  The theme of the retreat was "A Home in the Church."  The girls heard from Olivia McCann, a young adult convert to the Catholic faith, prayed a group rosary, enjoyed quiet time, learned about St. Catherine of Siena from Sister Charlene, SSJ, and prayed a group prayer service.
PENN RELAYS
Congratulations!
 
On Thursday, SBA Track ran the 4x100 & the 4x400 at the Penn Relays.
The 4x100 was run by first leg (Kambi Walker), second leg (Sophia Mahoney), third leg (Erin Gilseman) & anchor (Sop hia Barn ett) with the resulting time of 52.15. 
The 4x400 was run by first leg (Sophia Mahoney) finishing with the time of 62.4seconds. Second leg (Cara Hughes) finishing with the time of 68.8seconds. Third leg (Ciani Kensey ) with the finishing time of 62.4 seconds. Last but not least, the anchor leg (Taylor Thomas) coming to the finish line for Saint Basil A cademy with the time of 61.8 seconds.

SPRING CONCERT
An evening of music

Congratulations to the musical groups at SBA who performed in the Spring Concert! The band, choir, handbells and strings entertained the SBA community once again this Spring!


AP TESTING
Testing begins May 1

AP testing begins on May 1.  Please see the test schedule below for specific times and room assignments.

MOVIE NIGHT
May 5th

All SBA students, parents, and family members are invited to attend Movie Night on May 5th at 7 PM in the AP room. 
Popcorn, snacks, and beverages will be available for a donation.
All proceeds will go toward SBA's trip to Franciscan University's Youth Conference this July in Steubenville, Ohio.

GRADE SCHOOL DANCE FOR A CURE
May 6th

Saint Basil Academy is hosting a "Dance For a Cure" for 6th, 7th and 8th grade students on May 6th from 7-10 PM.  Proceeds from the dance will benefit the Four Diamonds Foundation to conquer childhood cancer.  Please help spread the word to any 6th, 7th & 8th graders you know!!  Details are below.  Thank you.

  
CELEBRATE COLLEGE COMMITMENT DAY
Photo to be taken on May 12th

'Celebrating College Commitment Day at SBA' has been changed to May 12th.  Please wear the t-shirt or sweatshirt of the school you will be attending in the fall OVER your uniform on that day. A group picture will be taken that day to continue the tradition!   
Mini-THON
May 12th - Chaperones needed

Our 3rd annual Mini-THON to benefit Four Diamonds and childhood cancer research will take place on Friday, May 12th from 7 PM to 7 AM!
The girls are tremendously excited for this amazing event.
We are in need of chaperones to assist with Mini-THON.
We are asking for volunteers to sign up for three-hour shifts.

The shifts are broken down as follows:
7:00 PM to 10:00 PM
10:00 PM to 1:00 AM
1:00 AM to 4:00 AM
4:00 AM to 7:00 AM

SBA CARES
Upcoming events

Sunday, April 30th: Our Sophomore class will sponsor a Car Wash from 11-2. Proceeds benefit Mini-THON.  Parents, please bring your cars to be washed this Sunday! 

Friday, May 12th : We will host Mini-THON.  This event begins at 7 PM and concludes at 7 AM.  Please contact Theresa Hartey or Emily Kleinle if you would like to help chaperone.

Friday May 19th: Our senior students will visit Rydal Park for our annual "Senior Prom."

Every 2nd and 4th Monday of the month:  We continue to tutor at La Salle Academy. 
COLLEGE SERVICES
Seniors
 
All students, especially SENIORS are encouraged to check out the Scholarship List available on their Naviance accounts.  If you are an underclassman, it is never too early to begin searching for scholarships and applying to those you are eligible for.  If you should win the scholarship all monies can be deferred until you are ready to attend college.  Additional free scholarship sites include Fastweb.com and Scholarships.com.
 
**All college acceptances and scholarships are posted on the bulletin board outside Room 20.  This is the information that will appear in the graduation booklet.  Please check the bulletin board for any missing or incorrect information.  Please notify the Counseling Department with these changes as soon as possible. ** 

COLLEGE SERVICES
Juniors

All Junior parents received a Parent Brag Sheet via email.  Please complete the brag sheet and return it to your daughter's counselor as soon as possible.  A recent email has been sent with another brag sheet in case you misplaced the first one.  Thank you.
 
Junior students should stop into the Counseling Department and sign up for Loyola University Maryland and the University of Delaware if they would like to add them to their College Interview Day schedule.

Updates

MOTHER-DAUGHTER BRUNCH: 
The annual Mother-Daughter Brunch is Sunday, May 7TH, from 11:00-2:00 at the newly renovated Bridgeman's Hall on Norcom Road in Northeast Philadelphia.   Payment was due by Wednesday, but we are still accepting  online payments only  through the weekend.   Please note there will be no physical tickets, but your name will be placed on a list at check in. A photographer will available if you would like to have your picture taken.  The photographer accepts cash or check payments, no credit cards. You will also be able to take chances on raffle baskets! If you have any questions regarding the Mother-Daughter Brunch, please contact Camille McCreavy at   cbmccreavy@aol.com  or 610-909-4236.

GENERAL MEETING
The last general meeting of  the  school year is Tuesday, May 9. Remember if you attend two meetings and volunteer for two events, your name will be entered  into a raffle drawing to win one of two chances for a $250 tuition credit! The drawing will be held at the end of the meeting. The Parents' Club has been re-structured for the 2017-2018 school year, so there will not be elections held this year. However, we strongly encourage you to attend to see what we have planned for next year and learn how to get involved!

FLEA MARKET/VENDOR FAIR
May 20th 

Saint Basil Academy is hosting a Flea Market/Vendor Day on Saturday, May 20, 2017. R ain date is Sunday, May 21, 2017.  Space is 12 ft. by 12 ft. and $25.00 if you bring your own table/chairs and $40.00 to use ours.  Event will be held on the front grounds of Saint Basil Academy.

SUMMER SPORTS CAMPS
Camps begin in June 

Summer Camps for grade school students through 9th grade, begin June 26th.  SBA will host Basketball, Soccer and Volleyball camps. Online registration ends June 15th.  After June 15th, please mail in the registration form. Visit Summer Sports Camp for more information.
