Quotes from 2017 Competency Study Series graduates:
"The Competency Series with Dr. Metz is a concentrated series of meetings in a small group that isn't just about appliances that we can provide patients with SDB. It is a comprehensive ongoing study and understanding of the disease, its prevalence in our population, and how we as dentists can help discover, guide and sometimes treat Sleep Apnea. The best part is that you are not alone. Great group support!"
Robin Jungblut, DDS
"
Never have I experienced an educational process as unique and enriching as this [course]. You will look at sleep medicine in an entirely different manner and be exposed to the latest techniques and diagnostic procedures. I highly recommend the Competency Study Series to anyone who wants to take their dental sleep medicine practice to the highest level."
Richard B. Dunn, DDS

American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine Volume 196 Number 9 | November 1 2017
Home respiratory polygraphy may be a simpler alternative to in-laboratory polysomnography for the management of more symptomatic patients with obstructive sleep apnea, but its effectiveness has not been evaluated across a broad clinical spectrum.
The objective of this trial was to compare the long-term effectiveness (6 mo) of home respiratory polygraphy and polysomnography management protocols in patients with intermediate-to-high sleep apnea suspicion (most patients requiring a sleep study).

Hamoda M, Kohzuka Y, et al.
Chest. 2017 Jun 14. pii: S0012-3692(17)31069-3.
Oral appliances (OAs) are becoming increasingly recognized not only as an alternative, but also possibly as an adjunct treatment modality for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Compared to Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP), the gold standard therapy, OAs are less efficacious but are more accepted and tolerated by the patients which may...

You are invited: Chicago SFOT Lecture
The New Frontier in Interdisciplinary Dentofacial Therapy Course
 Join
Drs Brian Vence, George Mandelaris and Rick Roblee in Chicago for
for a two-day course to discuss the biology and benefits of implementing SFOT in advanced interdisciplinary therapy from a surgical, orthodontic and restorative perspective.
Specialists are encouraged to bring their interdisciplinary team to this course.
When:
Friday, April 13 to Saturday, April 14, 2018
Where: Medinah Country Club, Medinah, IL
Patients that want more ideal facial esthetics and stomatognathic function, may choose to have the interdisciplinary team utilize SFOT to alter the dentoalveolar bone and optimally position the roots of the teeth within the face. Space may be appropriated to enable the restorative dentist to create natural tooth size and morphology in the worn, eroded or otherwise altered dentition. Surgical, orthodontic and restorative perspectives will be presented to challenge the team to move beyond traditional interdisciplinary therapies into a new frontier for enhanced outcomes.
