The $35.7 million balanced 2018 Budget for the Town of Paradise was unveiled during the regular public council meeting on December 19, 2017. For 2018, the operating budget is decreased by 2.4% while maintaining the residential and commercial mil rates at 6.8 and 11.5 respectively. The Town's debt-servicing ratio stands at 6.7%, down from 9.6% in 2015.
"The Town of Paradise has a long commitment to sound fiscal management. For Budget 2018 Council gave careful thought and consideration to the services, programs, and investments we can make within our fiscal structure. This enables us to maintain the current mil rates, have one of the lowest debt-servicing ratios in the region, and make strategic investments in our Town," explained Mayor Dan Bobbett.
The major initiatives included in Budget 2018 are:
- $2 million for the upgrade to Clearview Hts.;
- $1.5 million for a roundabout at the intersection of Topsail Rd./ McNamara Dr./ Clearview Hts.;
- $1.5 million for Phase III Paradise Rd. upgrades;
- Infrastructure Improvement Fee reduced from $3000 to $2500 for both residential and commercial builds and developments;
- New Waste Disposal Assistance Program will offer a rebate to assist with the cost to have residential septic tanks pumped;
- $500,000 to work with Town sporting associations to leverage additional funding to assist in recreational facilities improvements;
- Increasing the snow clearing budget to address snow clearing in cul-de-sacs.

Come celebrate the holiday season with the Town at our Christmas Skate at the Paradise Double Ice Complex on December 28. This event promises to be fun for the whole family with face painting, Sky High Amusements, free hot chocolate, and prize giveaways. The fun kicks off at 7:00 p.m. in the main foyer of the Paradise Double Ice Complex.

Councillor Willis receives Canada 150 Pin
|
St. John's East MP Nick Whalen presented Councillor Sterling Willis with a Canada 150 Sesquicentennial Pin earlier this week. This presentation was part of Canada 150 Celebrations, where Liberal Members of Parliament across the country are recognizing outstanding individuals with the limited-edition pin, made of copper from the roof of the Parliament of Canada.
The ceremony recognized themes of diversity, inclusion, reconciliation with Indigenous peoples, environmentalism, and youth support.

Regular garbage and recycling collections between Monday, December 25, 2017 and Friday, January 5, 2017 will move ahead by one day. Please visit our Garbage and Recycling Page for information on how your area is affected.
Please note that wrapping paper, greeting cards, gift bags, and tissue paper are not recyclable in the curbside recycling program. Glass beverage containers, bottles, and jars are also not recyclable through the program.
