TeamDoorwaysResidents visit Rainbow Ranch

Three Cooper House residents accompanied by staff recently traveled to the Rainbow Ranch in Nashville, IL. They were greeted by the owner, Alan, who took them along on his daily chores of the ranch. The day included bottle feeding baby barnyard animals, herding cattle into the barn to be transported that day, and checking on newborn calves. The residents got to meet goats, sheep, cows, deer, dogs, cats, swans, horses, llamas, and even camels, a macaw, and a zebra!

Residents learned about the history of the barn, house, church, and community that Alan's great-great-grandparents had started in the 1850s. On the way back to Cooper House in our new van the residents were asked if they enjoyed the day, in which there was a unanimous "Yes!" from the back seats. All three insisted on another visit.

TeamDOORWAYS Team DOORWAYS and GO! St. Louis

On April 8 & 9, 68 friends, donors, clients, board members and staff came together to form TEAM DOORWAYS and participate in the GO! St. Louis Marathon and Family Fitness Weekend. Forty-three walked or ran in the 5K on Saturday and 25 walked or ran in the 7K, half marathon or marathon on Sunday. Forty-seven volunteers signed up to be course monitors or staff the DOORWAYS tent. Thank you to everyone who participated!  In the three years we've participated we've raised nearly $28,000 in support of programs and services at DOORWAYS and are already talking about plans for next year's team!

AnnualDinnerAnnual Dinner & Award Ceremony
On April 4, DOORWAYS held its Annual Dinner, generously hosted by SSM St. Mary's Hospital at the health center.  The Michael Edlin Award, DOORWAYS' highest honor, was presented to Diane Gershman Levine. Rudi Bertrand and Paul Williams received the Generosity Award, and the Volunteer Award went to Philip Shipman.  These long-time supporters were recognized for their generosity, not only of their resources, but also their time, expertise and leadership.  Thank you to everyone who bought an ad in the evening's program.  Congratulations and thank you to all!

JeffCityJefferson City Advocacy Day

Supporters of DOORWAYS traveled to Jefferson City to advocate for Cooper House and the Medicaid AIDS Waiver.

Devastating cuts have been recommended to long term care in the Missouri's fiscal year 2018 budget.  The proposed budget cuts include a 3.0% cut to our Medicaid rate. We are advocating against this reduction in funding and asking the legislature to restore all of the proposed cuts.
