Judge Paula Patrick
Candidate for Pennsylvania Superior Court

Judge Paula Patrick was recently awarded the "highest recommendation" by the Pennsylvania Bar Association for her work as a judge in the largest Common Pleas court system in the state.  Paula Patrick has served in the juvenile, family, criminal, and civil divisions for more than 14 years, during which she's written more than 400 opinions. Paula Patrick is seeking nomination on the Republican Ticket for Pennsylvania Superior Court in 2017.

Judge Patrick has shown a commitment to her community, profession, education, and family. For the past two years Judge Patrick has served as adjunct professor for the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice at LaSalle University. In addition to her work as a professor, Judge Patrick served in numerous community organizations, from being a board member for Schuylkill Women, to working pro bono for Philadelphia KIDSCAP (Kids Custody Assistance Project).

What prepared Paula Patrick for her work as a civil servant and judge was her education.  Judge Patrick is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Bennett College in Greensboro, North Carolina where she earned a B.A. degree in Political Science. She earned a Juris Doctorate degree from the Thurgood Marshall School of Law in Houston, Texas.

Shortly after graduating law school, Judge Patrick moved to Philadelphia and was admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the U.S. District Court for Eastern District of Pennsylvania, the U.S. District for the Northern District of Maryland, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court.  She is the founder of the Law Office of Paula A. Patrick, P.C., a general litigation practice covering a variety of practices including criminal defense and family law.

After nearly a decade advocating for the people at her law firm, Patrick was elected as a Judge of the Court of Common Pleas in 2003. She made her bid in January of 2017 for the Superior Court and made history when she became the first black woman to win the endorsement of the Pennsylvania Republican Party for a statewide election. Her distinguished record and firm commitment to upholding the Constitution have earned her a reputation for patent integrity and for serving the citizens of Pennsylvania with justice.  Despite her hard work and commitment to Pennsylvania, Judge Patrick says "I'm never too busy- no matter what's on the docket" for her nine year old Josiah.  Make sure to vote for Judge Paula Patrick in the Primary on May 16th, and then in the General Election on November 7th.

Door-to-Door Canvassing

Door-to-door visits by candidates or committee members are a very effective means to get a candidate's message to the voter.  Although some may dislike canvassing, it is important to remember that most people are kind and interested in hearing what you have to say.  The canvasser cannot be discouraged by a voter's initial annoyance with being interrupted.  Be friendly and quickly state why you are there.  Once they understand that you do not want a donation, and you are not selling anything, and you don't want to convert them to a new religion, they are usually receptive.  Inexperienced canvassers should first go along with those who have good technique to model themselves after an expert.

 

The canvasser should take the following items:  

1. A street list with the names and addresses, and party affiliation of the voters. 

2. A brief list of bullet points that you want to cover about the candidate.  

3. Brochure about the candidate to leave with voter.  

4. Report sheet to record responses and questions from voters.

 

A typical script should be brief: "Hello Mr. Jones, my name is Suzie Grassroots, and I'm running for Plum Borough School Board.  I'm running to limit spending while still providing a great education for our children at a cost that is affordable to the taxpayer.  I hope you will consider our entire team of candidates running this year for school board and municipal offices on Primary Election Day on May 16." 

 

Give the voter a brochure, and then leave and record the results.
