Who is the best in Texas? Bring your family to Govalle Park Austin this May and see. The top finishers from the preliminary events on Friday qualify to compete in the Master's Challenge where the winner earns the right to compete in the North American Tree Climbing Championship in Salt Lake City, Utah this October. The Master's Challenge on Saturday combines all the skills from the preliminary rounds into one big climb.

The final event will be held in Govalle Park on Saturday, May 20th. On this day, we will also host a recreational climb and the Texas Tree Fair. These events will be open to the public, so please feel free to bring family and friends.

Oak Wilt Qualification Course
Oak Wilt Certification is now a Qualification
June 29-30 in Fredericksburg

Join the Texas A&M Forest Service and the Texas Chapter ISA for the Oak Wilt Qualification Course and Assessment. This two-day workshop is for ISA Certified Arborists and will show you how to identify and manage oak wilt in Texas. 

Each participant that successfully completes the course and passes the assessment will receive the status of Oak Wilt Qualified. Their qualification will be noted on the Texas Oak Wilt website as well as on any handout and other materials referencing qualified individuals. Dr. David Appel, Texas A&M and Robert Edmonson, Texas A&M Forest Service will be conducting the training.

Tree Climbing Methods, Work Positioning & Best Practices Course 
May 16-18, 2017 in Austin

L1 Tree Climbing Methods,  Work Positioning & Best Practice
3-day module - no prerequisites other than the eligibility to attend requirements. 

The participants will be educated and trained in modern tree climbing methods and learn about the systems and techniques that make tree climbing and work positioning safer, easier, and more efficient. We will look at the different tools and techniques employed in a Moving Rope Climbing System(Doubled Rope Technique, DdRT) vs a Stationary Rope Climbing System (Single Rope Technique, SRT). We will discuss some of the advantages and disadvantages of both climbing systems. Learn through both theoretical and practical learning activities how to make the fundamental physics & mechanical advantage in your climbing system work for you! This course will also introduce work positioning best practice with hand saws & chainsaws emphasizing safety, skill and productivity.

ISA General Membership Election
Vote for your Directors and Committee Seats

ISA is seeking to fill two seats on the ISA Board of Directors, and general membership voting will begin 13 April 2017. The Nominating and Election Committee has received and evaluated a qualified roster of nominees who represent the diverse mix of ISA's membership as potential leaders of our Society.

ISA Member voting will be available by electronic means only. Polls will be open from 13 April 2017 through 30 May 2017. In early April, ISA staff will email a link to the voting ballot to ISA members who purchased their memberships by 31 March 2017. Watch your inbox for your chance to vote, and have a voice in this important decision.
