League Honored by County Commission

The Broward County Commission presented The League of Women Voters Broward County with a proclamation supporting the efforts of our Gun Safety Committee.
 
Gun Safety Committee Chairperson, Bradette Jepsen thanked the Commission for their support.  "In addition to our advocacy efforts, the Broward County League of Women Voters is committed to educating the public about gun violence. We are happy to share what we have learned about this vital issue with other community groups."

What: Orientation Program: Who We Are and What We Do. Learn about League priorities, education and advocacy. 

Find out how you can become active and effective as a member of the League. The event starts with a light lunch at 12:15 p.m. and includes a presentation and Q&A.

Speakers Bureau Training

In 2018, we anticipate many requests for knowledgeable speakers who can make LWVBC educational or advocacy presentations to community groups.  If you are interested in joining the Speakers Bureau as a speaker or speaker's assistant, we invite you to attend a training session.
 
We will offer two training sessions:
  • When: Jan. 23 at 6:30 p.m. or  Feb. 3 at 10 a.m.
  • Where: League Office - 5101 NW 21st Ave., Suite 450, Fort Lauderdale.

Help Needed


We are looking for Spanish speakers who can help with outreach to Hispanic communities.
 
We need speakers who can make presentations about League priorities and/or to help with Voter Registration. Volunteers do not need to be native speakers; tasks will be assigned according to the level of language skills.

Women's Health Issues in the News
 
Florida Legislature:
House Bill 41 and Senate Bill 444: "Pregnancy Support and Wellness Services". Taxes would support pregnancy services only, and exclude information about birth control and/or abortion.
 
Constitution Revision Commission:
Temporarily postponed a decision about changing Florida Constitution language regarding right to privacy.
