Dec 2017 Volume4
1st Annual LLVRC Club Day and Chili Contest a great success!
On October 21st, we had 5 8's and a 1x out on the water filled with Masters and Juniors. It was quite a sight to see from our new club. Then we all went inside to taste and judge over 20 different homemade chilis. The competition was fierce, but the overall winner was Maria Wilson with her Fantastic White Chili. Other group winners were: Spicy - Becky Paun, Vegan - Seth Ahlborn, and Mild - Michael Kristof. Thanks to all those that came and rowed and then ate all the good chili.
Pinecrest Academy Cadence Beats Foothill HS and All Stars for 1st Nevada State Rowing Championships
As part of our desire to make the sport more competitive in Nevada high schools, we split the junior team into their schools for a 5000m race on November 28th. Pinecrest Academy Cadence held off a fast charging Foothill HS crew to win the race in a time of 20:03 with Foothill at 20:18 and our All Star group at 20:30. This is the first of three Nevada State Rowing Championships we are hosting. The next one will be an Indoor race on January 27th and then the final 2000m race in May.
San Diego Fall Classic Results
30 Juniors and 21 Adults raced and came home with 4 medals
The LLVRC entered its first race with both juniors and adults! The Masters women 8+ raced first and had the 5th fastest time (19:37) of the 12 crews entered but are just too young!!! Adding the handicap they ended up 9th but raced well and will get faster as we train harder.

Izi Fimbres raced the varsity girls single event after only a month in the boat. Her time of 24:24 gave her a silver medal and was only 8 seconds behind a girl from Newport Sea Base that has a scholarship to University of Oklahoma next year...so the Red River rivalry begins early! "Hook 'em Horns" (Izi will be at Texas next year).

Due to a scheduling conflict with our amazing cox, Paul Her-Strum, the Adult Novice Men's crew raced against 12 College Novice crews and had the slowest time (20:37), but if we could have handicapped it for age we would have placed 8th overall.

The Junior Novice Boys entered two 8+'s and came back with a bronze medal time of (19:08) and 5th (21:11). Both crews were excited to race in their first race and did themselves proud. The Junior Novice Girls raced hard and placed 7th out of 8 crews. Not bad for a team of only 9 girls.

The Women doubled up into a 4+ and came in 7th out of 9 later in the day. The Novice Men added our only 2 experienced rowers and had to enter the college Varsity race. A good but tough experience.

Finally the Juniors also doubled up and raced 4+'s. The boys came in 2nd and 4th out of 7 boats and claimed our next silver medal. In the final race our Novice Girls 4+ raced super hard and were awarded the bronze medal. That was amazing race and we were so proud....unfortunately the next day they "fixed" the results and we ended up 4th. But still a great day for LLVRC.

Junior Rower Izi Fimbres wins LLVRC's First Gold Medal at San Diego Winter Classic!
Isabella Fimbres, our only Varsity Rower, went down to the San Diego Winter Classic on December 10th with Asst Coach PJ Lloyd, her mom and truck and our Owen 1x, and came back with a nice new necklace! The LLVRC's first ever Gold Medal.

Izi raced on a crazy 5000 meter course on Mission Bay and beat her only competitor by 3 minutes. Her time was only 45 seconds short of winning the boys event!

Well Done Izi!

Still Time to Donate in 2017
The grown of the club has been amazing and we have some fantastic members, now we need to start making some progress on fundraising to get us back in the black.
We need 4 more cox boxes, 6 sets of sculling oars, and the trailer needs an overhaul for safety.

Please Donate what you can. Thanks, Jim.
