Sweet Briar board to host
PHIL STONE FAREWELL Food Truck Festival!
Saturday, April 22
12 noon - 2 pm
The Sweet Briar College Board of Directors has announced it will host the Phil Stone Farewell Food Truck Festival from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 22, on the campus quad.Everyone is welcome at this celebration to thank President Phillip C. Stone for his steady leadership over the past two years. He will leave the office to his successor, Meredith Woo, on May 15.
"It struck us that the best way to thank Phil Stone for everything he's done for Sweet Briar and this region was to have a community wide celebration," says Teresa Tomlinson, chairwoman of the board. "The food trucks, the music, the gorgeous campus and all the people who helped us and cheered for us over these two years will provide the perfect 'thank you' to Phil and Cherrill Stone."
The invitation is extended to friends and neighbors in the Amherst and Lynchburg communities and at nearby colleges, as well as all current and former Sweet Briar board members, alumnae, students, faculty and staff. Food options will include Jacked Rabbit, Upper Crust, Blue Ridge Barbecue, Uprooted and Frosty Penguin. Complimentary popcorn, cookies, lemonade and water will be available.
There also will be musical entertainment by Sweet Briar's own steel band, Skiffle USA, as well as activities for children and adults.
Food is available for purchase, but there is no cost to attend. The rain location is Upchurch Field House in the Fitness and Athletics Center. For more information, please email
[email protected] or call (434) 381-6210.

MHERST COUNTY MUSEUM & HISTORICAL SOCIETY CALLS OUT FOR AMHERST TOWN AND COUNTY STORIES
WANTED: Tales of curious events, strange happenings, unusual people and ghost stories of Amherst County.
A subcommittee of the Activities Committee was discussing events of the past in Amherst history and talking about its folklore and ghost stories. What if we had an event that focused on these stories, a sort of Ghostwalk? The only problem is we have so few tales, not much happened in the county that was part of the Revolutionary and Civil wars...Jefferson fleeing Charlottesville and a few Union excursions...nothing like a whole battle....
Let's ask people, but how do we get the word out?
Tales of the odd, unusual and curious. Does anyone reading this have any good tales of Amherst....we know about Judge Campbell, Sheriff Beard and John Parr, but what other stories are out there?
We want to bring these tales to life. Please contact the Amherst County Museum and Historical Society by email, mail, or a phone message for a call back to talk in detail about your stories. Don't be afraid to share...as soon as possible!!
Please submit your story by May 15, 2017.
The Amherst County Museum and Historical Society is a nonprofit educational organization whose mission is to discover, collect and preserve objects related to the history and genealogy of Amherst County. The society exhibits, interprets and offers its collections to provide educational experiences for people of all ages.

AMERICAN PICKERS to Film in Virginia
Mike Wolfe, Frank Fritz, and their team are excited to return to VIRGINIA! They plan to film episodes of the hit series AMERICAN PICKERS throughout the region in
May 2017!
AMERICAN PICKERS is a documentary series that explores the fascinating world of antique 'picking' on History. The hit show follows Mike and Frank, two of the most skilled pickers in the business, as they hunt for America's most valuable antiques. They are always excited to find sizeable, unique collections and learn the interesting stories behind them.
As they hit the back roads from coast to coast, Mike and Frank are on a mission to recycle and rescue forgotten relics. Along the way, the Pickers want to meet characters with remarkable and exceptional items. The pair hopes to give historically significant objects a new lease on life, while learning a thing or two about America's past along the way.
Mike and Frank have seen a lot of rusty gold over the years and are always looking to discover something they've never seen before. They are ready to find extraordinary items and hear fascinating tales about them.
AMERICAN PICKERS is looking for leads and would love to explore your hidden treasure. If you or someone you know has a large, private collection or accumulation of antiques that the Pickers can spend the better part of the day looking through, send us your name, phone number, location and description of the collection with photos to:
[email protected]
or call 855-OLD-RUST.
AMERICAN PICKERS is produced by Cineflix Productions for History. New episodes air Mondays at 9pm EST on History.

Ongoing Yoga Classes....
Have you missed a class in the past session? Fitness requires participation. We offer motivation and guidance. Sign up for this next session.
Mindful Mountain Yoga offers a holistic approach to health and well-being, improving quality of life through movement and mindful awareness. We begin with stretch, strength and balance. Week to week, exploring energies within mind and body, we balance our immune system, bring peace of mind, and gently challenge our spirit. Each class leaves us relaxed and refreshed. Results are noticeable within a few classes. Our studio welcomes every ability level, finding ways to connect community.
Ongoing Drumming Classes....
Recently
a new participant dropped into drum class. She had never beat on a drum before and here Malcolm had her banging different sounds on one of our extra conga drums. It's not difficult to learn where bass tones are played on a drum, or to find the position for tone sounds.
We play together at our own level of practice to create a mix of beats, together coming up with a rhythm that sounds amazing. Of course, we have a great teacher, Malcolm, who is also about listening, sharing his experience and technique. By end of class we have shared a creative experience and built on our knowledge of percussion. Drum classes fit into our Mindful Mountain Yoga studio holistic approach to health and well-being, improving quality of life through positive energy and mindful awareness. Week to week, exploring energies within mind and body, we balance our immune system, bring peace of mind, and take a gentle but challenging approach to include our spirit.
Mindful Mountain Yoga is located at Second Stage | Amherst
194 Second St, Amherst VA
