Message from Imam Feisal: "Let Our Image of God Unite Us"
LET OUR IMAGE OF GOD UNITE US

"Our charge as religious leaders is to remind us all that no ethnicity, nationality, or religion is our ultimate address.  God is."
- Imam Feisal
Dear Friends,

This evening, I will be taking part in a panel at the University of Pennsylvania titled "Sanctuary: A Public Discussion on Religion, Immigration, and Contested Spaces." Together with a diverse group of interfaith leaders, I plan to discuss some important topics: What is a "sacred space"? What makes a place "sacred"? How does religion exist within spaces, such as mosques, churches, and synagogues?

These questions prompted me to consider how we - as individuals, members of communities, and people of faith - locate ourselves in the world, and how we can let our common love for - and the love of - God unite us beyond barriers. I explore these ideas in depth in an op-ed published today in the Philadelphia Inquirer.

At Cordoba House, we strive to create precisely such a space: one that is at once particular to and honors our Muslim faith, but also allows us to transcend that label to embrace the unity of all people through God.

Our programs at Cordoba House further these important ideals. The Cordoba House Sunday School program teaches children about Islam, helping them grow strong in their faith, while also providing the students important opportunities to learn from and get to know people of other faith traditions. Our Leadership Training Program seeks to prepare a new generation of Muslim leaders, not only through strong spiritual training, but also by providing the knowledge and skills to work as bridge-builders with other faith communities. And, our Interfaith and Arts and Culture program embraces the notions that we can all learn from one another and that we are fundamentally stronger together.

I invite you to join us on this mission to at once grow stronger as faithful Muslims while also uniting with our neighbors as part of a common human family. Please consider making a donation to Cordoba House.

With Warm Salaams,

Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf
President, Cordoba House
