Weekly Update

See the happy faces in the picture above? THIS  is how we use your fundraising dollars. It's been a great week with lots of fun for the kids, I took advantage of the great weather on Tuesday and accompanied Cid to the zoo outing. What a fun day, but folks scattered so quickly I didn't get to visit with everyone.  Last night we had a nice group of young adults to go out to the movies, with a new friend joining the group and today 80 people are down in Carver at Edaville for the day. I would have enjoyed going but had things that needed to be done here in the office. Like  the weekly update! With the Monday Holiday I'm a day late getting to this!

Next week we'll be busy preparing for the 5K Run and Walk on April 29th. Fundraising is way down still but the show must go on. We do need volunteers to make it happen, if you are available that day and want to be part of the team click here.  I am grateful for all who responded last week to my plea for participation, we are at 25% of our goal so it is a reality that we will have to cut back next year. Still, I'm especially grateful for the 12 top Teams and Individuals who've raised over 70 % of the $51,000 we've raised thus far. You guys are Rock Stars ! Several teams are within shouting distance of their goals. I need $500 more to met my $5,000 goal. So the push is on for this last week. Again it is never too late to jump on board and help your center so that we can continue to support your family and others.

We have 6 more Teams since last week ! Thank You to those who responded! I know I'm beginning to sound like a broken record ( does anyone understand that reference?) BUT If you've appreciated any of the help and support you have received  from the Center and are able, I implore you to click  here  and create a fundraising page today.
If you are among those who have registered to enjoy the day(35 of the 88 teams registered)  but have not done any fundraising I ask that you send out requests for support as well.  You're half way there! The worst that can happen is people ignore the request. Most people DO want to help, don't you?

If April 29th isn't a day you can devote to our cause, consider supporting a friend who is fundraising or any runner or walker by donating to their  pages. I want to thank those who donated to my page this week, I am touched by your generosity and caring.

Nicky's Law will create an abuse registry which will protect the safety and dignity of people with disabilities. Persons substantiated of abuse or neglect of an individual with autism or other intellectual or developmental disabilities will be listed on this registry and this will prevent re-hiring.
The bill was filed by Senator Mike Moore and Representative Linda Dean Campbell, the bill numbers are S 64 H 80.
Nicky's Law will require all provider agencies to check the registry through inquiry before hiring a new employee. The Arc has worked closely with the appropriate agencies and stakeholders, including Nicky's family.
We are grateful to Nicky's family for coming forward to initiate this bill and for their long time contribution to this effort.
Please helps us advocate for this important legislation - our goal is the pass this bill during this legislative session!
Contact Maura Sullivan, Dir. of Gov. Affairs at The Arc of Mass for information on how to get behind this initiative. [email protected].

If you are on Facebook there is a Facebook page dedicated to this movement as well, just look for "Nicky's Law " and ask to join the group to be informed on legislative advocacy steps to move this bill forward
