Please mark your calendars for the next program in the Mapping the Road  to Town Meeting: A Collaborative Citizen Education Series titled "How It Works and How To Work It: Advocacy and Public Hearings" which will take place at the Harvey Wheeler Community Center (1276 Main Street, Concord) on Thursday, January 11, 2018 from 7:30 - 9:00 p.m. This series is sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Concord-Carlisle, the Town of Concord, MA, and the Concord Free Public Library.
All are invited to contribute ideas for future library technologies. Consultant Jennifer Koerber will lead an in-person discussion at the Main Library on Saturday, January 20, 2018 from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. Participants can also join the conversation remotely by calling (872) 240-3212 and typing in the access code: 423-688-837.

An Afternoon with Nausheen Eusuf and Natalie Shapero

Born and raised in Dhaka, Bangladesh, Nausheen Eusuf will read from Not Elegy, But Eros (NYQ Books, 2017), her debut collection that covers a range of styles and themes-elegies, love poems, ars poetica, poems of witness, poems of wit and wordplay, poems set in Bangladesh, and poems set in the US. Eusuf is a PhD candidate in English at Boston University and a graduate of the Writing Seminars at Johns Hopkins.
Natalie is the Professor of the Practice of Poetry at Tufts  University and an editor at large of the Kenyon Review. Her poetry collections are No Object (Saturnalia, 2013) and Hard Child (Copper Canyon, 2017). Natalie's writing has appeared in The Nation, The New Republic, The New Yorker, Poetry, The Progressive, and elsewhere.

Digital Animation

Students will learn to use digital animation software, such as Stykz and OpenToonz, to create their own short animated films. Stykz makes it easy for beginners by incorporating pre-made figures while OpenToonz allows for more experienced artists to explore the powerful tools used by Studio Ghibli to bring their ideas to life. This class shows students how to animate step-by-step, allowing them to explore their creativity while learning about story-telling, time-management, and the 12 principals of animation. This class is great for all levels of experience. Open to grades 4 - 6. Registration required. [

Introducing 3D Print Service
|
Did you know that the Concord Free Public Library offers the use of an  Ultimaker 2+ 3D printer to library patrons? The printer is located at the Main Library and available to the public to make three dimensional objects in plastic using a 3D design software program.
Once you have completed your 3D design, save your work in the .STL file format and send as an attachment to [email protected]. Staff will assess a charge of $0.25 per gram, as estimated by the printer software, and contact you with a quote. Click here to read more about the 3D print service.
A How to Design and Print a 3D Object Workshop will be offered on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at 10:30-11:30 a.m. for adults.

"No Picture Could Be More Lovely": Ada Shepard With the Hawthornes in  Florence, 1858 exhibition and accompanying lectures will take place from April 6 - June 28, 2018 at the Main Library.
Central to this forthcoming exhibition are the sketchbooks and letters of Ada Shepard, a well-educated young woman who served as governess to the children of Nathaniel and Sophia Hawthorne between 1857 and 1859, with the focus on the family's sojourn in Florence in 1858.
The exhibition opens on April 6, 2018 with a lecture by Megan Marshall, Pulitzer Prize-winning author of Margaret Fuller: A New American Life, followed in May and June with lectures by Dr. Phyllis Cole and Reverend Jenny Rankin, as well as accompanying gallery tours.
