Principal's Message

Parents,

Parents, please note that testing starts next week for 4th grade.  Please be here on time for test start.  We will be testing all morning Monday through Friday. Click here to see our testing schedule.

On Friday, we held our second school wide Disaster Drill.  This drill, which included all students TK-5, is held twice annually.  The goal is to evacuate the building, quickly account for all children, then dispatch teams off to do their jobs.  Classroom teachers work in buddy pairs, and once students are accounted for, we send out search and rescue teams (there are 4) to check every area of the campus to make sure no one is injured, trapped, or hiding.  This also allows for visual inspection for damage, leaks, or unsafe structures.  We set up a triage first aid center, command post, and student release station.  All students are tagged with identification that lists emergency pickups.  There are nine emergency organization teams:  search and rescue, students supervision, building security, student release, first aid, support, buddy, crisis, and runners.  Each team has a specific job which cross checks with the command center to make sure all children and adults are safe and accounted for.  This includes our friends at Keyspot, too.  Today, we evacuated the building in under three minutes with relocation of all students to the fields.  Our search and rescue and staged first aid cases were completed in less than twenty minutes.  We work hard to ensure your student's safety and want you to know when we do these drills so you can be confident there is a plan in place in the event of an emergency.

From the Office

Please remember to notify the office, not just your teacher, if your child will be missing school.  Our teachers get very busy in the mornings and often don't see your emails or hear your voicemails until after attendance has been turned in.
From the PTA President

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Marcia Eiler and Margy Banfield for presenting on Guided Reading in Kindergarten at our PTA meeting last night.  It was fantastic.  The presentation brought so many new faces to our meeting and it was awesome!  We also voted in our new Executive Board and I am super excited for all of the new parents joining our board for 2017-2018 school year.  It is going to be great!

April is a busy month for WCEF as well.  They are working hard to fundraise for our district, so that they can support so many of our programs and plan for next year.  There are a few opportunities this month:  Today they have their Dine Out at Mooyah and on May 10th is the Taste & Toast for Education.  I encourage you all to get out there and support WCEF.

Hope you all have a wonderful week!

Danielle Scheg
PTA President
