RAMADAN AND SHAWWAL DATES ANNOUNCED

O you who believe, fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you, that you may (learn) self-restraint."  Qur'an 2:183

The Fiqh Council of North American (FCNA) has announced the start of Ramadan and Shawwal for 2017 (1438H).

The month of Ramadan is the 9th month in the Islamic, or Hijri, calendar.  The word "Ramadan" comes from the Arabic root word for "parched thirst" and "sun-baked ground." Through fasting, a Muslim experiences hunger and thirst, and sympathizes with those in the world who have little to eat and drink every day. It teaches him/her to be charitable. Through increased charity, Muslims foster feelings of generosity and good-will toward others.

We pray that God accepts our fasting and prayers during this blessed month.
