State Center Adult Education Consortium will soon begin the project of aligning our adult school and college programs to create an efficient pathway for students transitioning to college and/or career.

The initial meeting with faculty/teachers to kick off the alignment project will be Friday, May 12, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. at the Clovis Community College, Herndon Campus. 

Chosen faculty/teachers will be given background information, overarching goals of the alignment project, and individual objectives to achieve. Participants will also be given the opportunity to meet in their sub-region teams.  James Hayes, from Sage Business and Education, will coordinate this project to help ensure that an effective process, with useful resources, is created for all of us. 

SCAEC Board Members will decide which disciplines, i.e. ESL, ABE, CTE, will be participating in the first wave of alignment and also which faculty/teachers will participate in the initial meeting as well as subsequent meetings to achieve all objectives.

Teachers/faculty - if you are interested in participating in this project, please see your appropriate AEBG Board member as soon as possible!

The Madera Workforce Assistance Center held a ribbon cutting ceremony on February 27, 2017 to celebrate the opening of their new site.

The "one stop shop" houses Madera Adult School, as well as representatives from other agencies, including:

• Madera Community College Center
• Madera Workforce Assistance Center
• Madera County Workforce Investment Corporation
• Department of Rehabilitation
• Madera County Department of Social Services
• Employment Development Department

CCAE's Legislative Day was held on April 3 - 4, 2017 in Sacramento.

Executive Board Member JoJo Reyes  and others from Central Learning Adult School Site (CLA SS) met with state legislat ors to advocate for adult education.

Leaders in adult education continue to be faced with the need to convince local district leaders that the program is ongoing. The following points may be useful in that conversation:

• The AEBG is an important element of state leaders addressing the challenge of income inequities and poverty. With education and job skills, adults will be better positioned to earn wages that support families.
• Following the recent recession, major agreements by the Governor and the State Legislature resulted in the development of the AEBG and the revised adult education program.
• Including the proposed 2017-18 funding level, Governor Brown and the State Legislature will have committed $1.5 billion since 2015-16 to support adult education.

There are now multiple options available to contact members of Congress on this issue.  Students, teachers, and administrators can send prepared letters or make phone calls directly to their legislators.

Make a direct call or send a direct email.

Handwritten letters can also be sent by students detailing their adult education experience (why they enrolled, what they are planning on doing when they finish), and the message DO NOT CUT FUNDING FOR ADULT EDUCATION.

The Fresno Chamber of Commerce is hosting an 'Emerging Leaders Employment Expo' at Fresno City College.

High School and College Students are invited to attend on the following days to speak with employers and career experts in preparation for getting a job:

The Fresno County Superintendent of Schools Office - Alice M. Worsley School at Juvenile Justice Center is hosting the 2017 College and Career Fair for incarcerated youth of Fresno County. 

The Fresno County Superintendent of Schools Office and State Center Community College District have collaborated in helping this underserved population transition from the Juvenile Justice Center to the local community college system. David-Anthony Navarro, Clovis Community College - College Relations Specialist, has been personally involved with the program for over 14 years and sees it as an opportunity for hope, change and a future for these students.
