On March 2, JFCS Parent-Child Home Program (PCHP) staff visited the Minnesota State Capitol to add their voice to the Advocacy for Children Day. It marked the highest attendance for Advocacy for Children Day in the event's history!

Judy Halper,
JFCS CEO
It's always fun to make jokes about being forgetful. We do it all the time - with good intention and certainly don't mean to be offensive. Let's face it, we all struggle from time to time with remembering a name, a birthday, a phone number, etc. Still, losing one's memory is really no laughing matter. Just ask anyone caring for a loved one with dementia or Alzheimer's disease.

More than Memory Loss:
Emotions, Connection and Love Remain

When I told people that my mom had Alzheimer's, I always braced myself for the dreaded question, "Does she remember who you are?" I didn't like that question, because I didn't know how to answer it.

By Renee Segal,
whose mother Sandra Locketz, died of Alzheimer's last August.

JFCS' Kosher Meals on Wheels:
A Program Showing Meaningful Results
Meals on Wheels has been in the news a lot in recent days. The current administration's proposed cuts to funding for Meals on Wheels programs and budget chief Mick Mulvaney's statement that grants for these programs were "not showing any results," has caused a loud outcry.

Give2017:
Reaching Our Goals and Sustaining Our Jewish Values
At Jewish Family and Children's Service of Minneapolis, serving people of all backgrounds is critical to our mission. We are proud to share this wherever and whenever possible, but we less often talk about why we serve all people. Quite simply, we are guided by the "J" in JFCS -  because we are Jewish, we serve everyone.
But what does this really mean?

Did You Know:
Social Workers are Critical to Our Mission

Last month was Social Workers Month; throughout the month of March, the social work profession was celebrated and showcased nationally in many ways. At JFCS social workers play an important role throughout the organization. Those of us who work at JFCS are well aware of this, and are grateful every day for the passion and dedication our social workers provide our clients and program participants.  So, do you know what exactly a social worker is?

Passover Hag Sameach: A Little Bit Like Child Rearing

Debra Savitt, Community Involvement Manager
Sometimes doing my job as the volunteer manager at JFCS feels like having a fourth child: I plan. I arrange. I execute and troubleshoot. I worry (and worry) about the details, the goal of what we are trying to accomplish, and the permutations of the outcome. The reality is that, much like child rearing, events that take place beyond our doors are often out of my control. Sometimes we miss the mark, but luckily, things usually work out.

National Volunteer Week is April 23-29
Thank you JFCS Volunteers...
this week and every week!
National Volunteer Week, brought to you each year by Points of Light, is an opportunity to recognize and thank YOU, our volunteers, who lend your time, talent, voice and support to our community, and create change.

JFCS is fortunate to be able to harness the energy of more than 800 volunteers who support our mission. Discover how, on any given day, our JFCS volunteers are out in our community.
NextGen: Doing Great Work to Serve Our Community

On March 30, JFCS NextGen volunteers prepared and served dinner for mothers and children at the Jeremiah Program. This project was made possible by funds allocated at the first NextGen Giving Circle meeting. NextGen donors will gather for the next Giving Circle meeting on June 13 to allocate funds in support of JFCS programs and special volunteer projects like this one.
