New Plant Biosecurity Manual Tasmania available

The 2018 edition of the Plant Biosecurity Manual Tasmania was published on the Biosecurity Tasmania website on 13 December 2017. The manual will only be published online, and will not be available in hard copy format. The new edition includes several changes from the previous version. More information and download the manual

APVMA seeks comment on spray drift management
|

Submissions are invited from interested stakeholders on the draft proposal for spray drift risk assessment. The purpose of the proposed spray drift management approach is to enable more reasonable buffer zones to be set, provide clearer label instructions and increased flexibility, and support the use of drift reducing technologies. The consultation period is from 18 December 2017 to 30 March 2018. More information

Industry ideas wanted for plant biosecurity research

The nation’s recently formed plant research and development corporations’ biosecurity effort, the Plant Biosecurity Research Initiative, is calling on industry and researchers to submit ideas for pest and disease management and prevention via its recently established website. More information

Planning is well underway for the 2018 competition, so here’s a heads-up on when you’ll need your entries in. Exhibits will close on or about 1 October 2018, for judging on Thursday 4, Friday 5 and Saturday 6 October. More information coming soon.

Q. Is it better to cook with coconut oil or olive oil?
A. In terms of health impacts, it is better to cook with olive oil.
Compared to a tablespoon of olive oil, a tablespoon of coconut oil contains about six times the amount of saturated fat, nearly meeting the daily limit of about 13 grams that the American Heart Association recommends.
