Spring gardening fun at LWHS
gardening-items.jpg
Bring your gloves and garden tools, it's time for another LWHS Beautification Day!  On Saturday, April 29, from 9 am to noon, students, staff and parents are encouraged to help spruce up the school grounds and make LWHS as beautiful as it can be. We'll be weeding, pruning, digging out old plants for replacing and mulching. If you have them, please bring gloves, hand pruners, heavy rakes and shovels -- we'll mark all tools to make sure they are returned. If you have a wheelbarrow we could use for the day, that would be so helpful! Come when you can, stay as long as you can. No need to sign up in advance.

For those with gardening experience, we could really use your help to work with a small group of less experienced volunteers. If you are available to help lead, please contact our PTSA Beautification Chair, Tere Kaulfus.

A+ schools for a B student
Weekly help with choosing a college
TODAY! Wednesday, April 19: A+ Schools for a B Student
If you ask high school students to name as many colleges as they can, they often stop around 30....and those schools tend to be local, known for athletics, or one of the highly selective schools that get a lot of press but accept fewer than 10% of applicants. We'll focus on the hundreds of great schools around the nation, including the Pacific Northwest, that welcome students with B averages plus their various talents, experiences, interests and work ethic!

Wednesday, April 26: How to Prep for a College Fair
On April 29, the Spring National College Fair takes place at Seattle University Connolly Center from noon - 3 pm, offering a wonderful opportunity for students and families to have their questions answered by admission reps, alums and sometimes by current students. At the next College Workshop on Wednesday, April 29, at 12:40 pm in the Career Center, we will discuss the purpose of attending college fairs, questions to ask and how to make the most of your time. A list of participating colleges at the Spring College Fair will be available as well as a link to the site to register.

Wednesday May 3 and 10: No presentations. Good luck with AP testing!

View the full list of mini-seminar topics . For more information contact Judy Shedd or Debby Cossey . All students are welcome. Sponsored by the LWHS PTSA.

College Application Workshop: Call for volunteers for 2017-18
volunteer_signup_sheet.jpg
LWPTSA's College Application Workshop provides our seniors with college application essay and personal statement support. We also answer questions about the college process and steer students in the right direction for any additional support they may need. Volunteers are needed for the 2017-18 school year as we expand this successful program. Workshops will meet Thursdays (during ROO period) at 9:31 am and Wednesdays after school at 12:40 pm. We ask for a once-a-week commitment from September through January. PTSA provides training. Contact  Judy Shedd  to volunteer.

Prepare for Advanced Placement exams
Advanced Placement exams are scheduled for May 1-12. Students will pick up their AP Packets on Monday, April 24 during lunch; they will need their photo ID and may not pick up a packet for another student. Inside the envelope, they'll find a letter that will list their exams and test location, as well as their AP labels that they'll need for each exam they take. Students will need these AP labels and photo ID in order to check in for each exam. Check in begins at 7 am (doors close at 7:30 am) for morning exams, and 11:30 am for afternoon exams. Students are reminded that they CAN NOT leave any test early. The College Board has very strict rules regarding testing procedures, including no cell phones.  Having a good night's sleep and nutritious breakfast, plus being aware of the time and location, what materials to bring, and the testing procedures will help reduce test anxiety. If students wish to bring a snack for break time, they need to put food & drink in a clear Ziploc bag labeled with their name; College Board does not allow food or drink in the testing area.  Students should dress in layers because sometimes it is cold in the gym; students are not allowed to wear hoodies or bring in blankets. These students have worked hard all year to prepare for their exams: Good luck to each of them!
