The First Sunday After Christmas
December 31, 2017

"We invite everyone to share communion around God's altar.
We strive to be a welcoming and relevant Christian community doing what matters through prayer, worship, teaching, outreach, fellowship, and service.

We will demonstrate the real life application of scripture, tradition, and
reason by providing a safe place to respond to each other's needs,
hurts, joys, and interests."

Our Anthem This Sunday:

To God Be the Glory
A solo by Gretchen Kwatra

1 To God be the glory - great things He hath done!
So loved He the world that he gave us His Son,
Who yielded His life an atonement for sin
And opened the Life-gate that all may go in.

Refrain:
Praise the Lord, Praise the Lord,
Let the earth hear His voice!
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
Let the people rejoice!
O come to the Father thru Jesus the Son,
And give Him the glory - great things He hath done!

2 O perfect redemption, the purchase of blood!
To ev'ry believer the promise of God;
The vilest offender who truly believes,
That moment from Jesus a pardon receives. [Refrain]

3 Great things He hath taught us, great things He hath done,
And great our rejoicing thru Jesus the Son;
But purer and higher and greater will be
Our wonder, our transport, when Jesus we see. [Refrain]

Family Promise Hosting
December 24, 2017-January 7, 2018

Resurrection will be hosting Family Promise the weeks of Christmas and New Year's.  There are currently three families in the program consisting of 5 adults and 7 children ranging in age from 5 years old to an infant.  The first week, we are allowing the moms to prepare a dinner of their choice.  One family is vegetarian.  I plan to purchase the groceries they request.  We will need volunteers as usual to host dinner and be overnight hosts during the first week.  The second week, we will only need overnight hosts.  The Family Promise Board will provide the meals that week.

There is a sign-up sheet in the Narthex.  If you have any questions, please call me at 706-348-2240.

Thank you for your continued support of Family Promise!

First Day Hike:  Dukes Creek Falls
Monday, Jan 1, 2018 1 PM to 4 PM
Smithgall Woods State Park - Helen, GA

Start your New Year's resolution off right with a guided hike to Dukes Creek Falls. The 2.3-mile moderate hike will make a pit stop at our primitive cabin. Warm yourself against the cold chill with a cup of hot cocoa. Still feeling adventurous? Then continue on 2 miles to Dukes Creek Falls. This cascading series of waterfalls is a sight to behold. $5 parking. 706-878-3087.
People have been gathering in public spaces for ages, talking about life, philosophy, faith, doubt, and deep questions of meaning. Recently, many people are re-discovering the pub and tavern as a safe space to explore and express questions, learn from others, and engage with other traditions and perspective. Throughout time, profound insights have their origins paired with a pint. The pub is a space of freedom and a place to reflect on the technical layers of complexity in the drinks we imbibe and the philosophy and theology in which we share.

Join us the second Tuesday of the month and bring your questions, curiosity, and readiness to engage and wrestle as we pursue the Divine in the seemingly least likely of places.
