Commencement is coming... and so is a special Snapchat filter

Kansas State Polytechnic will have a special Snapchat filter available during commencement so you can make memories with family, friends and professors. The filter will be accessible in the Student Life Center and the College Center.
Spring commencement will be held on the Polytechnic Campus Saturday, May 6 at 10 a.m. in the Student Life Center.

Patricia Ackerman gives Coffman Lecture on critical thinking
After serving as the
Coffman Chair for University Distinguished Teaching Scholars the past year, Patricia Ackerman is completing her service on the committee with one last lecture.
Ackerman, who is a professor of language arts on the Polytechnic Campus, gave the prestigious Coffman Lecture on April 14 about the relevance of critical thinking in the classroom. Titled, "Critical Thinking: Voices at the Table," Ackerman's presentation was held at Hale Library on the Manhattan campus and explored critical thinking through the lens of contemporary pedagogical theories, disciplinary perspective and her own teaching practice.
In April 2004, Kansas State University Faculty Senate adopted five undergraduate student learning outcomes, including critical thinking. Ackerman proposed advancing the interests of undergraduate teaching and learning at K-State by facilitating university-wide discourse about critical thinking.

Ciao Italia: Students spend week studying abroad in Italy
 Talk about a chance of a lifetime! Kansas State Polytechnic students who are a part of the Intercultural Communications and Marketing Italy: Culture and the Italian Tourist Industry courses this semester got the chance to put their knowledge to use with a trip to Italy.
Along with their faculty sponsors, about 15 students traveled to the cities of
Venice, Florence, Milan and Cinque Terre for a week and explored the country's economy, culture, language, landmarks and customs.
After returning from the study abroad trip, the students will put together individual presentations for their class.

Thank you to Greg Stephens for another successful semester of the Civic Luncheon Lecture Series!
I would like to give Greg Stephens a big high-five for his hard work on the Civic Luncheon Lecture Series. The semester-long discussions wrapped up last week with the thought-provoking presentation on Muslims in American Society. Greg has done an excellent job of selecting subject matter that either resides in the headlines or is of influence locally. Greg understands the value of bringing the campus together with our community and providing an outlet where education, ideas and diversity can grow. Looking forward to the fall line-up... Aviation Scholarships:
The Textron Aviation Leadership Scholarship is open to students who will be full-time in 2017-2018 and will be a junior or senior. To apply, submit the following: copy of your college transcript (must have completed 60 hours of coursework in one of the aviation majors); copy of current resume highlighting outstanding achievements of exhibited leadership in the field of aviation, as well as the college and community; and typewritten 1-2 page essay on how this scholarship will enhance your ability to enter an aviation career.
Submit the documents to Cindy Newell, room 209 in the College Center. DEADLINE: April 21.
Middlekauff Scholarship offers two $5,000 scholarships to Kansas residents enrolled in the professional pilot program full time. To apply, submit the following: copy of college transcript; current resume highlighting outstanding achievements of exhibited leadership, particularly in the aviation field; and typewritten 1-2 page essay detailing why the scholarship would be beneficial and what you hope to contribute to K-State's professional pilot program. Burton Scholarship offers four $5,000 scholarships to full-time professional pilot students who either will be a junior or senior in 2017-2018.

The Charlie Wells Memorial Scholarship is offering a scholarship to a full-time student majoring in aviation-oriented curriculum.

The Paul Whelan Aviation Scholarship is offering a $2,000 scholarship. Must be in aviation major with a 2.5 or better overall GPA and a 3.0 or better GPA in aviation coursework.
DEADLINE: May 15th.
Last year, ATCA gave nine deserving air traffic control and aviation science students a total of $65,000 to cover the ever-increasing cost of higher education, and we hope to distribute at least that much in 2017.

Ever think of studying abroad but don't think you can afford it? Check into the Gilman scholarship. K-State Polytechnic has had students study abroad with the assistance of this scholarship. The deadline is March 7 for Summer or Fall programs abroad, and October 2 for Spring programs abroad.

Loan Repayment Option for Graduating Students
